2020 Middlesex County Swimming Championships

The Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club built on their record 2019 success of 112 medals at the Middlesex County Swimming Championships by winning an astonishing 128 medals in the 2020 Championships. The club finished as top club by winning 57 gold medals, 40 silver medals, and 31 bronze medals.

Ines Guimond-Beetham (12) led the gold rush for Camden with 8 gold medals as the team competed in the 4 day competition at the London Aquatics Centre. Ines won gold in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly, the 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m Freestyle, and the 400m Individual Medley. She also added a silver medal in the 50m Freestyle and a bronze in the 200m Backstroke.

Isabella Thanassoulas (11) and Ava Lambropoulos (13) kept pace by winning 6 gold medals each.  Isabella took home an impressive 13 County medals by winning gold in the 200m Backstroke, 200m Butterfly, 200m Individual Medley, the 50m, 100m, and 400m Freestyle. She also took silver medals for the 50m and 100m Butterfly, 50m and 100m Backstroke, 100m and 200m Breaststroke and the 200m Freestyle. Ava won her gold with a clean sweep of the Butterfly events by winning the 50m, 100m, and 200m events with additional gold in the 400m Freestyle and the 200m and 400m Individual Medley. She also took home silver medals in 50m, 100m, and 200m Freestyle.

Anna Podurgiel (18), Donatas Dragasius (16), and Ella McEver (15) took home 4 gold medals and championship trophies. Junior (16 and under) and overall championship trophies were awarded to the fastest swimmers in each event. Anna was crowned 100m Freestyle and 200m IM overall champion while also winning gold in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke. She also won silver in the 100m Butterfly and Bronze in the 200m Freestyle and the 100m and 200m Backstroke. Donatas was crowned 200m Individual Medley and 400m Freestyle Junior Champion while adding 2 other gold medals in the 200m Backstroke and 1500m Freestyle. He also added silver in the 200m Breaststroke, 200m Freestyle, and the 50m and 100m Backstroke. Ella was crowned Junior Champion of the 400m Individual Medley while also taking gold medals in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke and the 200m Individual Medley. She also won silver medals in the 200m Backstroke, 50m and 200m Breaststroke while adding a bronze in the 50m Butterfly.

Nick Finch (14) and Victor Gould (11) both found themselves on top of the championship podium 4 times. Nick took gold in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, the 50m and 100m Butterfly while taking silver in the 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, and 100m Freestyle and taking bronze in the 100m Backstroke, 200m Butterfly, and the 200m Individual Medley. Victor took gold in the 100m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke, the 100m and 200m Freestyle. He took silver in the 50m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke, and the 200m Individual Medley while adding bronze in the 200m Butterfly and the 400m Freestyle.

Double gold medallists consisted of Emilia Magliocco (15) in the 50m Freestyle and the 100m Backstroke, Leo He (15) in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, Brandon Biss (15) in the 100m and 200m Backstroke, Alexis Lambropoulos (16) in the 200m and 400m Freestyle, Eva Harris Brown (13) in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke, and Lucas Bohm (13) in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Gold medals were also won by Edie McGrath (15) in the 200m Butterfly, Leon Biss (11) in the 200m Backstroke, and Damian Miceta (13) in the 200m Breaststroke.

Para-swimmers Charlotte Hyde (18), Leah O’Connell (18), and Ellie Simmonds (26) also came away victorious. Charlotte won gold in the 400m Freestyle, Leah won gold in the 50m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 50m and 100m Freestyle, and Ellie took home gold for her 200 Individual Medley.

Benjamin Podurgiel (10) and Charlotte Shao (10), two of Camden’s youngest competitors, impressively won bronze medals despite swimming in an 11 and under age group. Other medal winners consisted of Lauren Brantley (18), Scarlett Bureau (16), Antoine Divet (15), Yann Divet (17), Ritchie Grant (13), Alex Pama (16), Charlotte Pama (14), Sapir Pasheli (12), Ella Podurgiel (15), Gaurika Singh (18), and Pavle Stamenkovic (18).
