Congratulations to our Club Secretary, Carol Simms, who is the recipient of the Northamptonshire ASA County Certificate of Recognition, which is awarded annually in recognition of outstanding service to swimming within Northamptonshire.
Carol has given over 20 years of service to Kettering ASC. Like many volunteers her involvement began when her children joined the Club and she has been a mainstay ever since – even when both daughters went off to University she continued to be heavily involved.
Over the years Carol has taken on a number of Committee roles, including Chair and Club Secretary – but this does not encompass the roles she has fulfilled. At times when there were key vacancies on Committee she has supported several functions, including the Treasurer and Volunteer Co-Ordinator roles.
As a qualified Timekeeper, Carol is always available to support the Club on poolside at Club Champs and League galas. In terms of volunteer recruitment she is tenacious and does an incredible job at “selling” the Club to potential new members.
On two evenings each week Carol can still be found at Kettering Swimming Pool – dealing with queries, signposting information and selling kit to raise funds for the Club.
Carol was responsible for securing the Club’s SwimMark status and has maintained this since it was first awarded.
At our annual Club Champs, Carol ensures everything is in place – booking venues, organising Officials, liaising with other Clubs (as required), confirming availability of AOE, chasing volunteers to fill roles, maximising entries, ordering medals and checking everything is in place for a successful competition.
Carol is a treasure trove of information, with a grasp of the Club’s history and an incredible memory for key decisions made by Committee (and the rationale) over the years. She is the glue that holds the Club together.
We believe that Carol has made an enormous contribution to Kettering ASC and is a worthy recipient of the County Certificate of Recognition.
