New Structure

 Dear members

We hope this email finds you and your families well.

Whilst we haven’t been able to hit the pools there has been a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes. The government are due to announce the pandemic recovery roadmap in the coming weeks and we are excited to share with you all a revised return to pool plan.

The pandemic took the whole world by surprise and despite the best planning nobody had a contingency plan for a pandemic! As a swimming club we had to adapt and adjust our operating model, balancing pool availability, swimmers abilities and Covid restrictions. We did this by introducing an interim model of fitness groups. It was fabulous to see swimmers of all ages and abilities training. Your patience and support over the last year has been unwavering, thank you. The use of fitness groups enabled us to maximise the number of swimmers who could safely train at any given time however, we recognised this didn’t embrace the performance pathway of the club.

We have listened to our members and are delighted to share that we shall be returning to a squad-based structure as soon as pools reopen. Squads will be determined by coaches and based on a number of factors including ability, attitude and attendance. We strongly believe that where a swimmer works hard and achieves, they should have access to the right level of training intensity and coaching ...“dream, believe, achieve”!

Julie and Louise have spent a considerable amount of time reviewing all our main pool swimmers and aligning with the new squad structure. We want to kick start the return to swimming and acknowledge the efforts of all our swimmers individually when announcing squad selections. Therefore, over the next couple of weeks our coaches will be in contact to let you know which squad you have been selected to join, the expectations of the squad such as pool time and also associated squad fees.

If you have any questions, please talk these through with the coaches. As always if you have any feedback please do pop us an email at [email protected]

Once we know more details about when our pools will open we will be in touch. In the meantime, don’t forget land training every Monday at 7:30pm.

Take care,

Staines Swimming Club Committee
