At the end of July the Club had two senior swimmers who had qualified for the British Summer Champsionships, namely Abbie Hurst and Zac Patel.
These championships are for the top 24 nationally ranked swimmers in each age group.
Abbie qualified in the 50m, 100m & 200m Breastroke and Zac in the 50m Butterfly, a major achievement in itself!!!
Abbie led off by being seeded 3rd in the 50m Breast, she qualified for the final in 3rd (33.66) with her fastest swim of the year and reinforced that in the final with 33.34 for the bronze medal, the Club’s first ever British Champs medal. She was 7th last year in the same event.
On Wednesday she posted 2:49.22 in the 200m Breast for 20th out of 23, improving her seeding as she went in seeded slowest in the whole field across all age groups.
She then went 1:16.25 for 11th in the 100m Breast, improving on her seeding again although slower than her times at Regionals in April.
Zac followed up with his 2nd fastest ever 50m Fly with 26.97 (26.85 at Regionals) for 12th overall 16 year old. He was disappointed with his finish and missed the final by just 0.18 seconds.
This was his first ever swim above Regional level so to be 12th in Britain was a fantastic achievement.
