Swim England Masters Championships Oct 17

Berkhamsted SC had just 2 swimmers competing in the Swim England Masters Championships at the Ponds Forge complex in Sheffield.

Mark Strakosch and Jack Filer, back from University in Durham, flew the flag for the club.

Mark was the busiest of the two competing in 6 events with Jack taking on 3 despite having a heavy cold.

Mark picked up three 8th places in the 100m Back (1:22.77), 200 Free (2:25.65) and 400 IM (6:21.20) plus a 7th place in the 200 Back (6:21.20).

However, his best performances came in the distance freestyle events. In the final race of the meet he claimed 5th place with 10:19.35, narrowly failing to improve on his Regional Age Group record.

Jack began with 1:10.85 for his 100 Breast claiming 11th overall but really shone in his 50m Fly where he came home first in his heat with 28.13 just 3/100ths outside his pb for 11th place overall. Jack finished with 10th in the 50m Breast in 31.91 again, just a fraction outside his best ever.

Mark had begun on Friday morning with his 1500m Free. Whilst he finished some 12 seconds slower than his 3 year old pb, his 10:29.30 was quick enough to lower his Regional Age Group record being slightly faster than the record he set last year. The finishing time was also enough to win him the silver medal in the 55/59 Age group.
