Peanuts Round 1 - May 18

Both of the Berkhamsted SC’s junior league (Peanuts) teams were at the Hitchin Swim Centre for Round 1 of the league and produced some excellent results from largely novice squads as, yet again, they were severely understrength due to unavailability.

However, the Club could have asked for no more from those who did turn out to represent the Green & Silver shirts in the pool.

The evening began with 2nd & 3rd places for Phoebe Goss (pb by 2.79 seconds) & Seren Diehl in the 10 years free followed by a further pb for Rocco Addati ahead of William Barnes for the Boys.

In the 11 years back, Anna Giacomantonio improved by 0.9 seconds for the girls and Jack Harman trimmed off an enormous 3.77 seconds for his 50m swim.

In the 12 years 50m breast Lydia Wisely posted 4th place while Imogen Crowther lowered her best by over 4 seconds.

Jess Cutler picked up an impressive 2nd place in the 9 years free and Noah Przygrodzki completed a first time effort for the boys.

Eva Lawson collected the Club’s first win of the night in the 10 years fly in 17.96 (pb) followed home in 3rd by Issy Whitaker also with a pb swim and then Joe Harrison and Dylan Harman made it a clean sweep of pbs in the fly for the club in the 10 years races.

Emma Hockney made it 2 wins for the girls in the 11 years free as both she and Saff Harding clocked impressive pbs as did Eric Batt for the boys in his own 2nd place followed home by Ronan Philbin in 3rd.

Ella Nijkamp claimed the 3rd win of the night coming home over 4 seconds clear in the 12 years 50m back and Alex Kalverboer placed 3rd, also in a pb for the boys.

With insufficient boys available to complete 9 years boys relays it was left to the girl’s team of Matilda Richards, Saya Khalili, Charlotte Holmes-Higgin and Jessie Cutler to bring home the win in the 9 years Free relay as did Seren Diehl, Tilly Anderton, Eva Lawson & Emily Jones in the 10 years Medley Relay, closely followed in 3rd by the squad of Phoebe Goss, Lara Connell, Issy Whitaker & Saff Harding.

Then the 11 years Free girls (Amelia Dewar, Gracie Lines, Emily Jones & Emma Hockney) and the 12 years Medley squad of Ella Nijkamp, Alex Farnham, Lydia Wisely & Abigail Briers made it a clean sweep of the first set of girl’s relays with 2 more wins. The 12 years girls came home streets ahead with a winning margin of over 6 seconds.

In the Girls 9 years backstroke, Olivia Bridgeman was a first time pb swim and Henry Eyles claimed 3rd for the boys ahead of Noah Przygrodzki.

Both Lara Connell and Tilly Anderton set pbs in the 10 years breast as they placed first and second again with a clear margin between themselves and the rest with Connell taking the honours by just under half a second.

Amelia Dewar and Amber Tooker both set pbs in the 11 years fly and were followed by a win for Ronan Philbin (the boys’ first of the night) in another best time along with first time pb for Jack Harman.

Abigail Briers stepped up to lower her 50 free best yet again in the 12 years event taking the victory with 3m of clear water to the 2nd placed swimmer and then Megan Royal claimed her maiden victory in the BSC hat taking the 9 years breast with a 4 second improvement. Charlotte Holmes-Higgin also went pb for 4th in the same race.

Seren Diehl was another to claim her first win for the club in the 10 years backstroke as she, Lauren Farnham, Fionn Clare and Rocco Addati all improved on their previous best times. Just a minute later, Lauren Farnham was up again to slice almost 6 seconds from her 50m breast best as she stepped up an age group to swim for the 11 year olds.

Sister, Alex Farnham took the club’s ultimate individual win of the night dropping to 36.63 for the 12 years fly with Tom Holmes-Higgin pinching 2nd place in a hotly contested boys’ race with a 1.39 second personal best.

Onto the final relays and the 9 year girls, Saya Kahlili, Matilda Richards, Charlotte Holmes-Higgin & Jessie Cutler, took their Medley relay with the 10 years girls, (Eva Lawson, Seren Diehl, Matilda Anderton & Charlotte Holmes-Higgin (again)) winning their Free relay and Issy Witaker, Saff Harding, Phoebe Goss & Lara Connell coming home in 3rd.

The final win of the night came courtesy of the 12 years girls’ team as Abigail Briers led home Alex Farnham, Lydia Wisely & Ella Nijkamp in the Free relay and another 4 second winning margin.

3rd place for the Green team squadron cemented 3rd for them overall on the night with the Silver squad who all swam multiple races to cover absences coming home 7th.

The rest of the 2 squads comprised Hugh Clare, Henry Eyles, Esme Weare, James Bellamy, Austin Clements, Ollie Miles & Pierce Philbin.

With the second round to also be held at Hitchin on 9th June and both teams at the same venue again and with the club hosting the gala it is set to be another fun packed night of swimming.
