Nova have 2 Medal Winning Swimmers at the 2018 British Championships 

Nottingham Nova had a total of 7 swimmers that qualified for this years British Championships held at Edinburgh. Incredibly 2 of these swimmers namely Freya Colbert and Polly Holden came away with British Championship medals. All swimmers thrived on the strong competition that included a number of overseas swimmers. 

Freya Colbert 14yrs was one of the youngest junior swimmers to secure the required qualification times. Freya had a busy 4 days of competition having qualified in a number of events. Freya started her series of events in the morning heats of day 1 by swimming 4.55.70 in the 400m Individual Medley to finish 13th and qualify for the evenings B final. In the B final Freya improved her entry time swimming 4.54.32 to finish 2nd in that final and therefore 10th overall but more importantly Freya was the second fastest junior swimmer (17yrs and under) and therefore amzingly won the Junior Silver medal . On the afternoon of day 1 Freya also swam 2.06.24 in the 200m Freestyle heats to finish 9th. During the morning heats of day 2 Freya swam 2.22.53 in the 200m Individual Medley to finish 27th and this qualified Freya for the C final that evening where she finished 3rd in a time of 2.20.66. She also swam in the 800m Freestyle during the morning of day 2 and finished 19th in a time of 9.08.75. On the morning of day 3 Freya raced in the heats of the 400m Freestyle finishing in a time of 4.26.05 to finish 24th and qualify for the B final that evening where she swam a faster time finishing 4th in the B final meaning a 12th place finish overall in a time of 4.23.59. Demonstrating that Freya is superb at the 400m events this performance also secured Freya the Junior Bronze medal. On the 4th and final day Freya competed in the afternoon heats of the 100m Freestyle finishing 8th in a time of 58.44. That same afternoon Freya also swam in the 200m Butterfly heats finishing 36th in a time of 2.29.20. Freya is a really talented young swimmer and if she can continue to keep improving then her future swimming career looks extremely promising. 

Polly Holden 19yrs swam 2.03.56 in the morning heats of the 200m Freestyle on day 1 to finish 19th. On Day 2 in the morning heats Polly swam in her favourite event the 800m Freestyle in a time of 8.48.47 to finish in an impressive 5th place overall. However 2 of the swimmers that beat Polly in the 800m Freestyle were overseas swimmers which meant that Polly secured a 3rd place British finish and provided Polly with the honour of standing on the podium to receive the British Championship Senior Bronze medal. On the morning of day 3 Polly raced in the heats of 400m Freestyle and swam it in 4.19.12 to secure 11th place in the heats and qualify for the B final that evening where she swam a slower time finishing 4th in the B final meaning a 12th place finish overall. On the final afternoon of competition Polly swam in the 100m Freestyle heats and finished in 2nd place in a time of 57.89. 

Mollie Wright 20yrs swam 2.06.78 in the 200m Freestyle day 1 morning heats to finish 40th. Mollie also swam 5.00.79 in the 400m Individual Medley day 1 morning heats to finish 23rd. In the morning heats of Day 2 Mollie swam the 800m Freestyle in a time of 9.12.96 to finish 21st. On the afternoon of day 2 Mollie swam in the heats of the 200m Individual Medley and finished in a time of 2.26.18 to finish 35th. On the afternoon of the 4th day Mollie raced in the 100m Freestyle heats and finished 65th with a time of 1.00.26.

Katie Henderson 18yrs swam 30.65 in the morning heats of 50m Backstroke on day 1 to finish 43rd. During the day 1 afternoon heats of 200m Backstroke Katie finished 7th in a time of 2.21.06. In the afternoon heats of 100m Backstroke on day 3 Katie finished in 2nd place in a time of 1.05.10.

On day 1 Josh Harris 17yrs swam 16.44.85 in the afternoon heats of the 1500m Freestyle to finish 20th. That same afternoon he also swam 2.12.50 in the heats of the 200m Butterfly to finish 32nd. During the afternoon of day 3 Josh competed in the heats of 200m Individual Medley and finished in 31st place in a time of 2.14.00. On the morning of day 4 Josh competed in the heats of the 400m Individual Medley and finished 17th in a time of 4.41.89.  

Annie Pearson 16yrs swam in the afternoon heats of day 1 in the 200m Freestyle swimming a time of 2.08.68 to finish 29th. On day 3 Annie competed in the afternoon heats of the 400m Freestyle and swam a time of 4.32.35 to finish 29th. On day 4 and the final afternoon Amy competed in the heats of the 100m Freestyle and finished in a time of 1.01.78 to be placed 91st. 

On day 1 Amy Mead 16yrs swam 2.13.77 in the afternoon heats of the 200m Freestyle to finish 50th. During the afternoon of day 2 Amy swam in the heats of the 200m Individual Medley finishing in 55th place with a time of 2.31.07. In that same session Amy completed the 100m Breaststroke in 1.17.23 to finish 37th in the heats. In the afternoon of day 3 Amy swam 4.47.67 in the heats of the 400m Freestyle to finish in 51st place. On day 4 and the final afternoon Amy swam the 100m Freestyle heats in a time of 1.02.30 to be placed 97th. That same afternoon Amy competed in the heats of the 50m Breaststroke finishing 28th in a time of 35.14.

This high level of competition provided all 7 of the Nova swimmers that qualified an excellent opportunity to race against the best swimmers in the UK and from a number of other international countries. For 2 of the Nova team to come away with British Championship medals is outstanding. All 7 swimmers can be proud of the way they conducted themselves and should be proud of their achievements.
