Gala Report: South Coast Raid for Staines

Staines Swimming Club raided the South Coast for a hat-trick of trophies in the final round of the Rother League, held at Waterlooville Leisure Centre. Staines competed against Winchester, Havant and Waterlooville, Haslemere, Alton and Eastleigh.

The team chalked up eighteen 1st place and fourteen 2nd place finishes out of the 53 events on the night dominating the points scoring leading from start to finish.  The team won the gala on the night by 38 points, a clear margin ahead of Havant and Waterlooville.

Alongside the overall gala victory, the team won the Top Club Senior Trophy for most points secured in the 16 years and Open age groups.

The team won Top Junior Club Trophy for most points secured in the 14 years and 12 years age groups.

To complete the clean sweep the team won the Masters Relay Trophy 4 X 25m freestyle, club veterans rolled back the years to win in some style. Performance Coach Julie punter took the lead leg showing her squad how it's done, coach Ruth Scanlan also swam a great second leg for the ladies and veterans James Overington and George Wilson swam for the men. James making a come back after many years donning the speedo's once more swam a cracking 13.18 for the third leg and George brought the team home for a convincing win.

It was a fantastic gala with great team spirit shown from the whole squad with face paints on cheering and encouragement for all the team, it's a really great start to the new swimming season and sets a standard to build on in the coming months.
