Wycombe was medal laden.
Eva Lawson fresh from her 1st overall in the 10/11 age group at County Champs (an award competed for across the whole range of events to determine the winner) stormed to another club best, taking gold in the 100m Back with 1:20.30. She also claimed victory in her first long course 400m IM having possibly gone out too fast, and in so doing set another new best for the Club as an 11-year-old just 2 days after her birthday. There were also wins in the 100m Free 1:09.25; 50m Back 36.42 and a final event silver in the 50m Breast 44.07 to cap a superb 4 weeks for the youngster.
Jess Cutler (10) competed long course for the first time with her 1:29.62, 100m Free & 1:45.43 for the 100m Back and will have learned from the experience.
Alex Kalverboer (8th overall in the 13 years County Champs) was also on fire despite the after effects of his illness he carried through County Champs. In the 200m Free he smashed his pb by 15 seconds claiming bronze in 2:28.01. It was another 20 seconds from his 200m Breast best that provided his gold medal performance before a final 50m Free collected another bronze with as he knocks on the sub 30 door in 30.42, dropping 6 seconds from 2018.
Ciara McKenna was delighted with her category silver in 1:06.60 for the 50m back and Pierce Philbin pocketed bronze in the 200m Free (2:57.83) & 4th in the 50m Free (35.94) in his first two 50m pool races ever. Like Cutler he will have learned a lot.
Tamsin Moren continued to show she is coming back to form with Gold in the 100m Breast (1:26.81); Gold in the 50m Breast (39.71); Silver in the 100m Free (1:11.14) and a lowest placing of just 4th in the 200m Back, clocking 2:50.70. All of her races were swum in pb times.
The final competitor from the club was Lydia Wisely. Like Eva Lawson she took on the 400m IM and picked up bronze in her first attempt with 6:50.06 and also set pbs in the 100m Free (1:13.38) & 100m Back (1:27.04), 5th & 4th respectively, finishing just shy of her best in the 50m Breast.
A cracking meet and an ideal opportunity for some swimmers to compete at their first Long Course meet.
