Congratulations to Highdown Juniors and St Johns Primary schools
Team Clevedon was well represented at the ESSA (English School Swimming Association) Primary South West division relay championships at MIllfield school yesterday, Monday 1st April. This event is for pupils in Years 5 and 6.
Competing in Portishead's Highdown Junior School boys teams (Open schools category, mainly for larger schools) were Jamie Steadman, Alfie Lee-Lewis, Jaydon Jones, Rio Fitton and a Backwell club swimmer, Charlie Cox. The boys came 2nd in both the freestyle and mixed stroke relays. The winners, Westbury on Trym Primary School, were in a different heat.
Well done to Jess Brown who swum in Highdown Primary School girls team (Open schools category ) – her first time swimming at Millfield. Despite being nervous she swam well impressing her fellow non club pupils. A great experience so Jess will be ready for her next outing, when in Year 6 next year!
Competing for Clevedon's St Johns Primary School's mixed team (Medium school category) were Riley Price, Eli Bassett, Evie Beattie and Eloise Mark. They finished 3rd in Freestyle relay and 4th in the Mixed relay.
Nicola Steadman, Nicola Mark & Sue Clinton contributed to nearly 25% of the officials (always short for this event) so their help was appreciated!
As the first three teams in each category qualify for the National finals at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Saturday 15th June where both Highdown boys team and St John's mixed team have invitations to compete at this event – what an achievement!
