Caradon Masters compete in Gloucester

The Caradon Masters were back in action again last weekend in the Gloucester Masters short course competition at the GL1 pool.

The five strong squad that was due to attend was unfortunately reduced due to illness. Helen Kula-Przezwanski, Sam Crosby and Susan Smith were all fit and well and performed very well throughout the day.

Helen was on great form, achieving 2 more outstanding British records and 5 Gold medals to add her ever growing collection.

Helen became the new British record holder in the 100 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke. Well done Helen.

Helen took the gold in the 50 Back swimming a near perfect race and even managed a negative split!  Helens 1st place time in the 100 Freestyle set a new meet record.

The final race of day for Helen was the 50 freestyle in which again she put in another tremendous effort finishing the race head down and no breathing from 11 meters out, taking her 5th Gold of the meet.

Sam Crosby was once again back in the pool and although unfortunately having to reduce the number of sessions she now trains performed very well.

In a very competive age group Sam swam a new personal best in the 100 Freestyle and just missed out on a medal in the 50 Fly by a few tenths of a second. In the afternoon session Sam really had a race on with the 100 Individual Medley – she opened very strongly with her Fly & Backstroke, lost some ground to the others in her breaststroke but pulled it back with her freestyle to touch second and take the silver medal. She finished the day with 100 Fly beating off the competition to claim the bronze medal.

Meanwhile Susan was in fine form picking up a brace of medals coming 2nd in the 50 Breastroke and 3rd in the 50 Freestyle, Susan worked hard in both races really attacking them and came away with two well deserved medals. Susan also came 4th in the 100 Freestyle hampered by her goggles coming lose and filling up!

Big thanks also go to David Smith who though unable to swim in this meet still came and cheered on all his team mates which was great see.

Thank you to Brett for his poolside coaching and motivation to the team.

A massive well done to all who made the trip – excellent effort all round.
