For those unable to attend our Club AGM, here's a report on the success of the club from our Head Coach, Pat.
The strength of TeamClevedon is as a result of the great members we have all striving to ensure our swimmers are the best they can be. This all starts with the superb introduction into competitive swimming and the importance of the attention to detail in the skills taught in our Improvers, and Development.
Without our volunteers coaching and being poolside we cannot ensure our sessions run giving feedback and encouragement reminding our athletes of their aspirations.
With our club dynamics being made up of 60% being under the age of 12 and the majority in primary education it was clear our squad structure needed to change to allow for our swimmers to continue to develop their skills in age appropriate environments.
Our Junior Skills squad is for those who are developing skills many of whom are aspiring to compete at our Somerset County Championships in 2020.
Junior Competition Squad is for our younger swimmers to develop their training skills working on their training to train skills and competing at County levels and aspiring to compete at Regionals.
Our Senior Competition Squad is for our older swimmers those typically who will be secondary schools who are training and developing skills and committed to competing at the appropriate levels.
Senior Skills Squad is ideal for our senior swimmers who wish to continue their love of swimming and working on developing and maintaining their skills. This squad with 3 hours water time is ideal for those who are juggling exams. It is important to Team Clevedon to support the love of swimming while juggling exams and other commitments. We know from speaking with our older swimmers how much they love passing on their love of swimming to our younger swimmers. We currently have many older swimmers who volunteer their time to assist poolside juggling their work and study time, inspiring the next generation of swimmers.
It is a great development that we are in a position to offer support for our older swimmers to gain teaching qualifications in return for their time volunteering with our younger swimmers.
Performance Squad continues to support those who are aspiring to compete at the highest level they can.
We have seen some great success this year at Counties with 56 swimmers with county qualification, 63 final positions by 18 swimmers, 21 medals shared with 7 swimmers. We have 3 swimmers who have been invited on the County Pathway in addition to our own Team Managers Jem and Jo Sell acting as County Team managers.
We have 21 swimmers with over 60 RQT and RCT.
We really did punch above our weight with our performance in the Arena League retaining our position in the current division with the support of swimmers from the past as well as those who train at Taunton and CoB all managed by Sue Stanbrook.
We are in the A final for the Cotswolds league and our thanks go to our new Team Mangaers Nic Steadman, Claire and Dave Best.
Our Mini Team continues to remain very strong under the excellent Management by Fran Chambers.
Our Four Season Team is still a critical introduction to Team events and which John Gall manages.
Without our volunteers managing the club we wouldn’t have water time, dry side activities, competitions organised with the appropriate officials and all the right people in all the right places.
We continue to work along side Taunton, City of Bristol and more recently within North Somerset ensuring we share ideas and practices for the benefit of our swimmers. Our coaches often attend CPD meetings and coaches workshops giving up more of their precious free time for the benefit of all at Team Clevedon.
It is equally important to recognise our wonderful Volunteers and the pride I am sure we all see when we se our own recognised with in the regional volunteer nominations. It is equally important to understand that we would not be in this position if we didn’t have the support of all our volunteers who often complete tasks well in to the night and hidden from view.
