CSCSC WINS M11 JUNIOR LEAGUE

The youngest stars of Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club produced an outstanding team performance to claim victory in the final of Division One of the M11 Junior Swimming League.

In a thrilling competition held at Barnet Copthall pool, Camden finished impressive winners ahead of rivals Dulwich Dolphins and hosts Barnet Copthall in third. Stand out performances came from Brandon Biss (9), Gabriele Giovannoni (10), Marliese Rittenhouse (11) and Julia Murphy (12).

Brandon claimed the first individual victory in the boys 9 years 25m freestyle. He followed this with another maximum points win in the 25m backstroke. Biss also joined Josua Mara, Luka Cutler and Oliver Wright to win both the 4 x 25m free and 4x 25m medley relays.

Gabriele sprinted to first place in the 10 years 50m freestyle and fought hard to take second place in the 10 years 50m backstroke. Swimming up an age group, he also grabbed a third spot in the 11 years 50m backstroke.

Marliese powered to finish first in the 11 years 50m freestyle and touched second in the 50m backstroke, while Julia continued her preparations for the nationals with an emphatic victory in the 12 years 50m freestyle and a close second in the 50m breaststroke.

Further individual wins came from Keith Mara in the 10 years 50m breaststroke and younger brother Josua in the 9 years 25m butterfly.

Vital second and third place finishes came from Edie McGrath (9), Oliver Wright (9), Ella McEver (10), Danny Markov (11), Yann Divet (11) and Konrad Georgescu (12).

Julia and Marliese teamed up with Clementine Butler-Brown and Amelia Sargent to take victory in the girls 12 years 4 x 50m freestyle relay, and in an exciting climax to the competition, the two girls then joined Brandon, Edie, Scarlet Bureau (10), Gabriele, Danny and Konrad, showing great team spirit to clinch the win in the 8 x 25m freestyle mixed cannon relay.

The Camden youngsters will now progress to the regional final later in the year, competing against the winners of Junior Swimming Leagues from across the South.

The M11 is part of the National Junior Swimming League. Division one contains 16 teams from London, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Cambridgeshire. After two rounds the top 8 clubs meet in the final round.
