Well
done to our Masters team, who returned from the Barnet Copthall
Open Meet with 6 gold medals, 5 silvers and 2 bronze, with three
swimmers achieving double gold in the Men's events.
Chris Hopton (40-44) was on good form, winning 400m freestyle in
4:33.06 and 100m freestyle in 57.47. Chris was pleased with the
400m time, his fastest this season, but was just a second off his
target of 56 in the 100m.
Martin Woodhams
(50-54) had a busy and successful meet, competing in 6 events and
taking home double gold in 200m breaststroke and 800m free, double
silver in 100m breaststroke and 400m free and also adding a bronze
in 100m free. Martin is improving rapidly as a pool competitor,
having come from a triathlon background originally. The extra speed
he's developing in these pool events is of great benefit when he
comes to compete again in open water and triathlon events, crucial
for quick starts, competitive and congested turns around buoys and
of course for any close finishes.
Stuart Mathews, also in Martin's 50-54 age group showed his great
versatility again by winning gold in 200m backstroke and 200m
butterfly.
Tamsin Jaggs
(55-59) was silver medallist in all 3 of her events, 100m, 400m and
800m freestyle and was pleased to take 3 seconds off the 100m time
she set in May this year. Elena de la Camara (45-49) was
awarded bronze in 400m freestyle.
