Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers claim golds at Regional Open Water Champs

Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers claim golds

at Regional Open Water Champs

Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers had a hugely successful day at the London Region Open Water Championships, held at Surrey Quays Water Sports Centre on Sunday 10th July.

Our youngest competitor, Amelia Dowell (11) had a great swim in the 1k event, taking gold in 19.12.27. As the event doubles up as the Middlesex Championship, Amelia also took home the Middlesex title.  Coco Brinkmann (14) also won both titles in his age group, finishing with a time of 18.28.55.

In the 1.5k event, Ennis Barnett (15) claimed the Regional and County gold medals in 21.50.16.  Yann Divet (13) finished with a bronze medal  in the Middlesex event, with a time of 24.26.50, as did Drew Dill (14) in the girls’ 1.5k event in 22.28.26.  Both swimmers finished 4th in the Regional event, just missing out on National qualification.

Conditions were more challenging than usual - the water temperature was 19 degrees, with damp, cool conditions in the morning giving way to increasing winds in the afternoon.

Says Assistant Head Coach, Gerry Gillespie:

“The event gave all our swimmers some great Open Water experience and they fared really well against tough competition.  The team spirit and support they gave each other was an added bonus and was really pleasing to see.  We will definitely look at increasing our participation next year.”

Many congratulations to all of our swimmers who took the plunge.
