Over the course of this year the coaches and committee have been reviewing our current squad structures and considering how best to build on the momentum we have achieved this year. Central to this review has been our strong desire to support every swimmer to realise their ambition whether its nationals, regionals, counties or representing the club in various Galas. To do this we have to increase the numbers of pool hours available to the senior squads in order to compete with other high calibre swimming programmes, improve the quality of our programme at all levels (for example land based training, coach/swimmer ratios and technical excellence focussed squads) and our flexibility to accommodate different commitment and ability levels. This last point is particularly important to us since we recognise that swimmers develop at different ages and often have competing commitments early on in their swimming careers. We are a performance club with a successful history of competing at a high level, however, in this review it was important for us to provide a broader set of training options to engage those swimmers who naturally develop their skills/physicality later. Our aim is to retain the commitment of all swimmers to the sport for as long as they wish too and we know from experience that often successful swimmers do not emerge until their early teens.
Jason has given considerable thought to how best to achieve our aims. By being able to invest in some more pool time next year (at Amersham and RMS), increasing the numbers of coaches and better facilities for land training, we have arrived at a new proposed structure. There is an associated cost for the new programme which we believe is reasonable (bearing in mind that our costs have risen over the last few years and continue to rise) and will be communicated along with squads at the end of June, once they are finalised.
Attached we have included an introduction to the new squads which includes Aims & Criteria, a new squad chart and a provisional timetable for September 2017. Further information will come out at the end of June but if you have any questions please contact Jason Keeler by email ( firstname.lastname@example.org) or in person and he will be happy to discuss them.
