December Newsletter - Its a New Year - Practice Like A Champion!

Message from Head Coach

What a memorable and thrilling end of the year!

The month began with a fantastic team trip to the London Olympic Pool! Everyone who attended had a really GREAT time and felt that Olympian THRILL of swimming laps in the venue that provided such excitement in the summer of 2012.

This was followed up by the nail biting, down to the wire excitement of the final Round of the Arena League held at the Aldershot Garrison Pool Saturday evening December 10th . FSC swimmers rallied to a FANTASTIC 4th place finish, just 1 point from 3rd . There were many tremendous swims with lots of personal best times and team support. This was a big improvement from last year’s 8th place finish and what promises to be an even better team performance next year!

Sunday December 11thmany FSC swimmers competed in the HART Last Chance meet in the hope of achieving those elusive County qualifying times. Only a hand full of swimmers seem to be able to shake off the exhaustion of the previous evenings competition to gain additional qualifying times but still it was a good evening of racing. Remember those of you who are still chasing those qualifying times the FSC Last Chance Qualifier is just around the corner!!!

Also December was a chance to measure your fitness and to bring your ‘A’ game to practice! The 5 P.R.I.D.E. Test Sets were held and many swimmers excelled gaining that level 5 status! Well done to all of you who received at least one Level 5 key fob! The test sets are meant to be challenging so if you missed out on a level keep practicing as hard as you can so next time yoU will achieve your GOAL!

We really had a memorable and thrilling 2016 keep working to being the best you can be! and 2017 will be even better!!

Coach Martin

Message From Chairman

2016 has been a mixed year of fantastic but also unfortunate events both in the UK and worldwide.

2016 for FSC though, was a year of continuous achievements at County, Regional, National and International level, both in pool and Open Water competitions from competitive to Masters, while the improvement and progression of our younger squads has been highly impressive.

For us, 2016 was a year of fun, enjoyment, great moments, team bonding, ethos, respect and inclusion.

For all that, I would like to thank you all and wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Joyful 2017!Dimitri Tsopanakos

Congratulations Richard Allen!

Farnham SC swimmer and 2016 Junior World Aquathlon Silver Medalist Richard Allen competed in the 10k run at the Northern Road Championships on the 27th December and achieved his first sub 30 minute time finishing in 29 minutes and 59 seconds. Richard is over the moon and when the rankings are published on 1stJanuary 2017 this time will put him in 2nd position in the Great Britain U23 rankings, a mere 2 seconds behind another Hampshire County runner.

The Brownlee brothers have both said that they were surprised and impressed at him running that time at his age, especially as Alastair Brownlee who is also the 2016 Senior World Aquathlon Champion has done this event before and commented that it was a tough hilly course.

Social Committee

Ideas are welcome regarding social events for the New Year & Spring time as well as anyone wanting to help our social committee.

We have already had some brilliant suggestions and are swaying towards a 'total wipeout' style watersports event.

Sunday Desk Helpers

We recently have recruited some new helpers for the next season but if you can you spare a couple of hours every few weeks to help on our Sunday Desk? If so, please contact Carrie. Ideally you would be asked to be available from 4.45pm-7pm or perhaps even for the first hour or last hour, full training given!

Squad Reps Needed

We are looking for a Squad Rep, for Tadpoles Black, it’s a sizeable squad so there must be someone who can help, so your squad can get information more quickly regarding any updates.

Our Reps forward Club emails to their squad members but to also take enquiries from their members and forward to the relevant person in the Club.  It is a useful link through the Club and allows information to be distributed and received quickly. If you are a parent of a swimmer in one of these squads and can help please contact Sharon.

Welfare Issues

Now that we've started our new schedule of swimming I would like to remind Swimmers and Parents about some of the basic do's and don'ts. We need to be respectful to our fellow swimmers and observe any rules set down by the Club and the host Pools that we use.

Sadly these are the top six moans that we receive from your fellow Club members so if we can all take note we can easily resolve them I'm sure:

  1. Please do not leave your bags and items in a change cubicle whilst training, each pool has lockers available. We cannot reserve changing cubicles.
  2. Swimmers are requested to use the shower areas promptly and appropriately.
  3. Parents are reminded not to use the Blue seats poolside at Farnham, our Policy is we request you not to go poolside during training. You may occasionally see parents there whilst a swim trial is happening or whilst members of the public are supporting swimmers in private lessons, or for the collection of Minnows.
  4. Please arrive poolside ready for training, with your kit swim hat and goggles. If you must leave the pool to use the toilet please get acknowledgement from your Coach first and return promptly.
  5. Be observant of the lane you are in and whether you are swimming on the right or left side of the lane. In general Odd number lanes you swim on the right, Even number lanes on the left, check this and be aware of fellow lane swimmers.
  6. Make room for incoming swimmers to tumble or finish their length.
  7. Finally - take care when overtaking or catching up to a swimmer, a tap on toes lets them know you are there.

Most of all, enjoy your swimming!??
