Reports:

1. Richard Allen – Two great results!

FARNHAM SWIMMER RICHARD ALLEN TAKES THE GOLD MEDAL IN THE TRIATHLON ENGLAND NATIONAL AQUATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS – June 11th2016

Following an injury packed year, Farnham Swimming Club and Surrey and South East Region ASA swimmer Richard Allen competed in a full field in the Triathlon England National Aquathlon Championships at Roundhay Park & Leeds City Centre in Leeds, Yorkshire. The Aquathlon is a gruelling combination of a 750m Open Water swim followed by a full 5,000m off track run and the event is part of the ITU World Triathlon Series 2016.

ENGLISH AQUATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS – July 2016

I am delighted to be able to inform you of another great effort from Farnham swimmer Richard Allen following his recent gold medal in the English Aquathlon Championships.

http://www.thepowerof10.info/rankings/rankinglist.aspx?event=5000&agegroup=U23&sex=M&year=2016

Richard competed in a prestigious 5km running race on Saturday in Solihull.  He was selected for the A race and finished 4th, a massive achievement for a 20 yr old. He beat many full time sponsored athletes and, after taking about 9 secs off his personal best, he is now ranked 12th in the U23 UK rankings.

Richard still has another year in the U23 age group and the European Championships qualifying time is 14.00 minutes. He will be working hard to take 16.32 seconds off his time by next year in order to fulfil one of his dreams of running in a GB vest. Incidentally, Richard is currently ranked 48th in the overall rankings - a list which includes the great Mo Farah!  To be in the top 50 as a 20-year-old is quite amazing, especially as he is a triathlete who is not a full time runner, and he is definitely planning to work hard to move up the rankings next year. This effort can only help to also improve his Aquathlon time.

APPEAL FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT  - We are seeking financial support to send one of our swimmers to Mexico to compete in the Aquathlon World Championships.

Richard Allen has been selected to represent Team GB in the event for the second year running albeit he was unable to compete last year due to an injury. Unfortunately, there is no National funding available for this event and so we are therefore seeking to raise in excess of £2,200 in order to pay for Richard’s transport and hotel accommodation costs. The World Aquathlon course this year is a grueling combination of a 2,500m off track run followed by a 1,000m Open Water swim and finished with another 2,500m off track run.

The Aquathlon World Championships take place this year on September 14th at Fonatur Triathlon Park on the Island of Cozumel, Mexico. The event is a part of the International Triathlon Union World Championships and a link to the event can be found at http://cozumel.triathlon.org/event/schedule/(see 14th at 8.00am).

We are seeking support from local businesses and organisations in order to raise just over £2,200 to cover the travel and accommodation cost and should be most grateful if you would please be so kind as to let me know if you or a business that you are associated with or know can assist in anyway. The more donations or sponsorships or £25, £50, £100, or more if you can help in that way, that we collect the quicker we will reach our target. Please do let me know if you can help and if you have any questions on the above or would like any further information please do let me know.

Report from the Chairman

When we joined the Club as a family three years ago, we were highly impressed with the Club's family-centric, welcoming culture and the successes that have been achieved because of this. It was the same time that Martin Edwards joined and launched his new swimming programme; a programme that completely transformed our swimmers’ mentality and progression path. Three years later, I see that this culture has evolved further, is empowered and that successes keep coming at a higher rate, in every level.

But this comes at a cost: the cost of the hard work and effort of all the people working in the background: on-boarding and managing members, coaching, officiating, organising and running events, managing facilities and venues, running finances, administration of the club technology and infrastructure, communications, welfare, community involvement, charity programmes…I could go on all day about how much effort these people are putting in this Club.

And all of them are doing it with joy and a big smile. Because we all love being part of this Club.

But with cost, comes success also. And the Club’s successes and more successes to come is You. This year, it was You (swimmers, coaches, parents, volunteers) who helped bringing back hundreds of medals, personal best times, international, national, regional and county competition achievements, at every level, from Minnows to Masters.

So we thank You for a fantastic year and looking forward to an even greater year going forward!

Dimitri Tsopanakos

Thank You Volunteers

A massive thank you from the Committee to all our fantastic volunteers who helped at the Club Sprints/Mini Meet and regular run the Sunday Desk, we could not run these events without your help.

Social Committee

Save the date - Summer BBQ will take place on Saturday 17th September

Trip to the Olympic pool - the social committee have discussed the prospect of taking a group to swim in the Olympic pool, Stratford as a winter treat. We would travel by coach and have dinner, returning around 10pm. This would be suitable for confident swimmers. At this point we want to get an idea of numbers so please email: [email protected] if are interested

We have established a social committee to co-ordinate and manage social events. If you are interested in getting involved please contact Nicola Douglas ([email protected])

 Sunday Desk Helpers

We recently have recruited some new helpers for the next season but if you can you spare a couple of hours every few weeks to help on our Sunday Desk? If so, please contact Carrie on [email protected]. Ideally you would be asked to be available from 4.45pm-7pm or perhaps even for the first hour or last hour, full training given!

Squad Reps Needed

We are looking for a Squad Rep, for Tadpoles Black, it’s a sizeable squad so there must be someone who can help, so your squad can get information more quickly regarding any updates.

Our Reps forward Club emails to their squad members but to also take enquiries from their members and forward to the relevant person in the Club.  It is a useful link through the Club and allows information to be distributed and received quickly. If you are a parent of a swimmer in one of these squads and can help please contact Sharon on [email protected]

Contacts:
