Modernian SC leads the way!!
What a cracking first
weekend of the Bedfordshire County Championships 2015!
Modernian swimmers got off to a fabulous start! In the first event it was a 1,2,3 in the 100 Backstroke, with Brandon Nabarro claiming Senior County Champion in a new Long Course County Record time of 1.00.41 with Peter Webster second and Oliver Maltby third. And the medals and titles just kept on coming after that!
Modernian swimmers claimed Senior County Champion titles for 400IM – Aiyana Lawson & Brandon, 50 Breast – Becky Burton, 200 Back – Brandon, 50 Fly – Oliver, 800 Free – Nicola Pasquire, 200 Breast – Brandon, 200 Back – Aiyana, 50 Free – Brandon, 100 Free – Brandon and 200 Free – Nicola.
Junior County Champion titles were awarded for 400IM – Aiyana and Patrick Keaveney, 100 Free – Aiyana, 200 Fly – Chloe Lence, 50 Fly – Patrick, 1500 Free – Max Wilson, 200 Breast – Patrick, 200 Back – Aiyana, 50 Free – Patrick and 200 Free – Aiyana.
Brandon went on to take a further two Long Course County Records in 200 Back 2.09.70 and 50 Free in 24.45. Having swum the 800 Free meant Tia Wilson, Aiyana and Chloe qualified for the National Open Water Championships to be held in the summer.
Claiming relay ‘scalps’ for Modernian SC were the 12/13 Girls Medley (Emma Shoobert/Tia/Kaelah Lawson/Mea Roberts), 12/13 Boys Medley (Jack Tremain/Joshua Bristow/Thomas Belcher/Kieran Allen), Open Ladies Free (Nicola/Chloe/Aiyana/Becky) and Open Mens Free (Brandon/Peter/Oliver/James Norman).
The icing on the cake over the weekend had to be Aiyana, who had already gained a British Swimming Championships 2015 qualifying time earlier in the year for 200IM at the Ground Hog Meet, smashed her way through three more times in the 400IM, 200 Free and 200 Back! By way of her qualifying in the 200IM, she is entitled to submit further qualifications times for consideration by the BSC organisers for entry into the other three events so the club has everything crossed that she will indeed be accepted for those swims too!
Modernian SC finished at the top of the county medal table with 39 Golds, 36 Silvers and 19 Bronzes, recorded 249 new personal best and achieved 75 East Region qualifying times! Head Coach, Vicky Simpson said ‘We swam as a team, cheered as a team and celebrated as a team! I was extremely proud to see everyone finishing the races strongly, overhauling numerous opponents in the last fifteen metres. We showed strength in depth in age groups, by winning multiple medals, as well in the Senior and Junior rankings. We showed strength in all strokes and distances too.’
Bring on the second weekend!!
