Biggleswade Open Meet

Modernian Swimming Club hit the top spot at the recent Biggleswade Open Meet. Not only winning the Visiting Top Club Trophy but both Tia Wilson and Brandon Nabarro ended the weekend as Top Boy and Top Girl!
Swimmers of the weekend in the Inter Squad were Emily Jones, who consistently showed high skill levels across all of her races over the competition especially in her 200m Breaststroke where she did a PB of 33 seconds and came in 18 seconds inside the county qualifying time and Samantha Tyler, who despite being away for a month over the Christmas period had been training hard ever since her return to prepare for this weekend.
For the Junior Squad it was their last chance to gain county qualification times and it was encouraging to see so many 9 year olds hitting 10/11 qualification times for the upcoming Bedfordshire County Championships. Skills practised in training are showing through in the swimmer’s racing.
There were 72 swimmers competing and they achieved 259 Personal Bests from 480 individual races and 64 Gold medals; quite a haul from one weekend at the gala. These results show the swimmers are ready for the County Championships next month and hoping to repeat last year’s magnificent top club position in this the club’s 50th Anniversary year!
