The Modernian SC Age group swimmers were in action at the East Region BAGCAT Championships held at the UEA pool in Norwich.
Kaelah Lawson claimed Silver in the 12 year
Age Group having swum to Gold in the 800 and 200Free , winning 2
Silvers and a Bronze on the way. Sister Aiyana swum to Gold in
400IM with Silver in the shorter distance 200IM with 2 Bronze
medals as well. Teammate Chloe Lence won Gold in the 12 year age
group for 400 Free picking up Silvers in 800 and 200 Free and 2
bronze medal places.
Paddy Keaveney, in a tight race, claimed Bronze for the 14 year old boys in the 200 Breaststroke. Sister Orla, competing for the first time at regional level, made her first final, also for 200 Breast. Jamie McCaffray who was also at his first regional championships finalled in 200Fly and 200 Free.
Max Wilson, one of the clubs long distance freestylers, set season bests in 100,200 and 400Free whilst sister Tia made finals for 200 Free and 200 Breast in the 11 year age group.
Seasoned regional championship swimmers Sophie Pedder, Llewelyn Wake and Mea Roberts all swam heats and qualified for finals in their number 1 strokes setting new personal bests at the same time. Katie Shoobert, her sister Emma and Gemma Trott made up the remainder of the squad with good solid swims against the best of the region.
From 84 heat swims, MSC swimmers made 34 finals and achieved 64 new personal bests. The club finished 9th on the leader board at the age group championships and having finished 7th at the youth championships, finished 8th overall in the region. Head Coach Vicky Simpson said ‘I am delighted by the results from both regional championships and finishing 8th in the region. The club is going from strength to strength; swimmers have been committed and worked hard to achieve these great results and the future is looking very promising. We now have 10 swimmers going forward onto the national championships in the summer.’
