Tilehurst have 20 swimmers who qualified for counties this year and those who swam over the weekend got us off to a great start. There were many highlights, some very exciting races and lots of PBs achieved. For some it was their first time at counties, whilst others came away as new county record holders for their age group.
The competition is being held at Wycombe and for the first time, all events are being swum as long course. As well as the usual junior and senior county championship awards, this year there are also age group finals being held. Nine of our swimmers achieved a final 8 placing (Alex, Anna, Annie, Ben, Beth, Bruno, David, Eshaan and Liv), with 6 of those going on to gain a top 3 position.
David - gold in the 50m fly, gold in the 100m breaststroke, silver in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 200m breaststroke.
Alex – bronze in the 50m fly
Bruno – silver in the 50m fly, also giving him an additional silver in the senior county championship category.
Liv – gold in the 200m backstroke, giving her a bronze in the senior county championship category.
Beth – gold in the 50m breaststroke giving her a silver in the senior county championship category.
Ben – silver in the 100m breaststroke, bronze in the 200m breaststroke, giving him silver and bronze respectively in the senior county championship categories for these events.
Thank you as always to Simon, Tyler and Adam for coaching the swimmers through the weekend; to all the parents who volunteered as officials and marshals; and finally, a huge well done to everyone who competed. Good luck to those of you who have events over the second weekend on the 27th/28th January.
