Camden Swiss Cottage win M11 Junior League for the Second Consecutive Year
On Sunday 24th June the Camden Swiss Cottage Junior League A Team travelled to Basildon Sports Centre for the third and final round of the 2018 M11 Junior League. On the coach there the swimmers were full of excitement, although they were doing their best to stay calm and conserve energy for the task at hand.
The goal was to qualify for the Junior League Southern Final for the second consecutive year. Going into the final round, the team from Camden Swiss Cottage were in second place in the League behind Basildon Phoenix, who also just happened to be hosting the final round; advantage to Basildon, but we knew that only a win for us would do.
Spurred on by the hard work that they had been doing in training, the Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers remained confident that they could secure the result. The whole team performed on the day, with many of the swimmers either recording PB's or equalling them at least. Ava Lambropoulos and Nick Finch were two of the outstanding swimmers performing in their own age category and the age group above in both individuals and relays.
Unsurprisingly, Basildon Phoenix pushed us hard until the end - however we persevered and finished winners of the third and final round. Both teams ended the league on the same number of points so the overall winning team was decided on who had performed best in this final gala. As the winners, we will now go on to represent the M11 League at the Southern Junior League Final for the second consecutive year - as well as for the third time in the last four years. This is a great achievement for our younger swimmers.
Gerry and Kylie were very proud of the way the swimmers performed on Sunday and of how they supported each other during the event. It was a complete team performance. Well done to all of you!
