FSC Newsletter July 2018

“You’re never a loser until you quit trying

Message from Head Coach

Sunday, 1st was the conclusion of our Club Championships combined with Haselmere SC.  This co-hosted event proved to be a success in offering additional competition for FSC swimmers and HSC alike.  Many personal best times were recorded and swimmers were rewarded with medals for their efforts!  It is the hope that if we co-host this event next season that more FSC swimmers will travel to Haselmere to make the event even more successful.

A season ending open meet was held over the weekend of 14th & 15th at the Mountbatton Centre in Portsmouth.  FSC was represented by 20 swimmers and accompanied poolside by FSC’s newly appointed coach, Sean Bailey.  Sean reported that all FSC swimmers gave 100% in their efforts and recorded an excess of 90% personal best times performances!!  Sean was very impressed with all of our swimmers and appreciated the support and gratifications from FSC parents.  This was a great finale to our season, finishing on such a positive note while establishing great expectations for the upcoming season!  Well done to all those who attended!!!

Good Luck to the 11 FSC swimmers taking part in the final competition of the season Saturday 21st at Westhampnett Lake, Chichester in the South East Regional Open Water Championships.  Swimmers will be competing in distances from 2,000m for 11 & 12 year olds, 3,000m for 14 & 15 year olds and 5,000m for 16 & overs.   Results to follow!!

Overall wrapping up this past season of competitions, I would like to congratulate all of our Team representatives who participated in the swim meets and continued to make our mark on the region.  The team has continued to make great progress and the future seems to be even brighter with many younger swimmers coming through our ranks.

Keep up the great work you are all doing, enjoy your summer break and come back ready to swim even better in the upcoming season.

Coach Martin

Humdinger Open Water Swim:

Farnham Swimmers Andrea and Nick took part in the second Humdinger swim over the weekend of the 14th July 2018. Taking on the challenge in a team of 4 with Blackwater valley runners Oliver and Sadie. It’s a simple challenge – how many laps can you do of a 1k lake in 6 hours. The sun was out, Wetsuits were optional and a fantastic result with team Lakerz coming 9th overall and 5th out of the teams with a fantastic 21k swim. The event was won by Calley Masters with 4 very focused swimmers managing an incredible 29k in the same time!

This is a great challenge to take on and is recommended for next year!

Fellow Farnham Swimmer Katie took on the event as an individual as part of her epic 100km charity challenge across the year, with an incredible swim she managed a fantastic result of second lady with an eye watering 19k – putting the rest of us to shame!

Farnham Masters at the Lido 2018

An intrepid group of 17 Masters swimmers braved the bright sun and cold wind early Saturday morning for a session at the Guildford Lido. Big Thanks to Sean for setting a session (optimistic at 3k!) and we soon discovered back stroke is interesting in the sun with no flags. Swimmers decamped to the Beefeater for a hearty Breakfast well earned – We look forward to the new season in September enjoy the summer comrades !

Summer Break Swimming

Check emails/WhatsApp group for any Masters swimming over the summer break – Masters normally go to public sessions so its good to co-ordinate and swim together where possible. – details of clinic sessions to follow soon mid August to September.
