Message from Dimitri, Chairman

May is the traditional month for our U14 and O15 Regional Championships, so I wish the best of luck to our swimmers who have worked hard all year to achieve regional times. We are also working with the coaching team to prepare for the Open Water season which is always an exciting addition to the programme: look out for further announcements.

Last, but not least, our Social Event Coordinator has stepped down due to other commitments, so we are looking for someone to take over. As a Club, we always try to endorse more social activities so we hope to find a replacement soon who can deliver an annual programme of activity. Please let me know if you interested or would like to find out more.

If you have any questions or comments, you can reach out to me or any member of the committee poolside or by email. Our contact details can be found on our website.

Message from Coach Martin, Head Coach

Regional competition

A small contingent of swimmers started the month with a final chance to achieve Regional Qualifying times at the Crawley Open meet held on the 6th and 7th April at the K2 Centre in Crawley. Several new regional times were achieved and many swimmers posted PB’s, or improved upon their existing qualifying standards.

Farnham will be represented by ten individual swimmers: Ethan Binding, Alice Davis, Alessandro Harker, Annabel Kuipers, Elliot Morpuss, Hannah O’Mahony, Ross Porter, Eleanor Stanbury, Amy Strode and Georgia Strode (event qualification detail can be found at the end of the newsletter).

In addition to these individuals, Farnham will be represented in four relays.

Good luck to all of our regional swimmers!

Haslemere report

The only other meet in April was on Sunday, 28th at Haselmere. We were represented by a strong number of swimmers most of whom were from our younger squads or were our less seasoned swimmers but that did not deter them from tearing up the pool! Lots of medals were won – a mixture of first, second and third places – and a total of 78 PB’s were achieved across 110 swims (71%).  A fantastic result for our swimmers!

A BIG well done to all of you who participated!

Social events

We are looking for someone to take over the role of Social Event Coordinator. This role includes:

  1. Organising key annual events including Club BBQ and Awards night;
  2. Coordinating our participation in community events such as Farnham Carnival and Community Games;
  3. Identifying opportunities for social events and working with the committee to organise them. In the past this has included a trip to the London Aquatics Centre (the Olympic pool) and swimming camps.

Please contact Dimitri or any committee member if you are interested or would like to find out more.

Fareham Nomads

A group of FSC Masters swimmers competed in the Fareham Nomads meet on Saturday 27th April. We came away from the event with a fantastic haul of seven gold, 11 silver and seven bronze individual medals; and two bronze medals from the very competitive relay events (the highlight of which was Andrea competing in two relays in the same heat: kicking off on backstroke leading to a win for FSC Team One; then rushing to lane six for a freestyle leg, securing third place for FSC Team Two!).

New FSC team members performed strongly including Mary who gained a gold and bronze; Mel who picked up silver; and Marian who was awarded the “Masters top swimmer t-shirt” for her first races in FSC colours.

European Championships 2020 Budapest

Masters will follow the elite Championships in late May/early June 2020 in Budapest, Hungary. Some FSC swimmers are interested in competing so if you fancy a trip to Budapest to join the team please let Nick know as soon as possible as this will require significant advance planning.
