November 2019 Newsletter

October 2019

Message from Dimitri, Chairman

Just one month before Christmas (time flies, where did Summer go?!) and we have a very busy, yet fun schedule! I will be joining our Arena League star team for the second round of the championship at the weekend and looking forward to more exciting and thrilling swims! A week later, we have our annual Club Awards! Please make sure you get your tickets in early and read through the communications that have been sent out via email, in this newsletter and on our page on Facebook. And talking about Facebook (FB), please do take a minute to join our Facebook group if you have a FB account, as we share a lot of valuable information about events and club initiatives, even last minute information on training sessions. Just search 'Farnham Swimming Club' and ask to join the group. Have a great November everyone!

If you have any questions or comments, you can contact me or any member of the committee or by email. Our contact details can be found on the FSC website and via this link Committee members.

Message from Sean, Head Coach

Off the back of two successful weekends racing at Hart and a 2nd place victory at the 1st round of the Arena League, the programme continues to go from strength to strength. The main Hart weekend had just as many swimmers there as the home club - in total 51 swimmers! Equating to 260 swims and 178 personal best swims. This hitting a 68% ratio which is incredible for the first meet of the season. The intention for Hart was to train through this meet and certainly not to focus on hitting personal best performances. It was the first meet of the season so its intention was to give everyone a bench mark time to gauge where they are post the summer break. The fact we got the volume of personal best times we did, was therefore, mind blowing and shows the hard work put in early doors is really paying off. A massive well done to everyone involved.

I couldn’t be happier with the way things are progressing, my focus is starting to move away from staffing and back onto programme development. The interview process has been successful and we are working hard to finalise an appointment. No doubt more information will follow on this in the coming weeks. We also have secured two new members to the coaching team Gill and Carl. They have in-depth knowledge of the sport and are already having a massive impact on the swimmers they are working with.

We are continuing to raise the bar and standards throughout the club and this is a credit to the coaching team and to all the voluntary support. I would like to thank everyone involved behind the scenes.

Moving forwards we have round 2 of the Arena League, the FSC presentation evening, and the High Wycombe open meet so lots of exciting events to look forward to.

In order to avoid the swimmers becoming complacent we now need to really focus in training and push on! There are a range of opportunities to race on the horizon including our BBS sprints / Mini meet. Everyone has something to train for and look forward to.

Awards night is almost here, many nominations in all categories from our youngest swimmers to Masters! Make sure your winner is at our wonderful annual event.

The event will take place on Saturday 16th November 2019 at Weydon School from 5:30pm until 9pm and is open to all squads, with Academy (formerly Minnows) awards being given out first (so you can leave early if needed for bedtime).

Tickets on sale now. You can pay by bank transfer with reference 'Last name + Awards19’ , Account details: Sort Code: 20-31-06, Account: 63534898.  Tickets cost £3/ticket or £10/family. Or we will be selling tickets via our Sunday desk on Sunday 10th November.

Unfortunately Martin is now not able to attend so we will ensure that he gets his retirement gift after the Awards evening. If you would like to contribute to Martin’s retirement gift please make a separate transfer to the same account, with the reference ‘Last name + Gift’.

Food is provided by the following squads as follows:

Savoury - County Development, County, Regional Development and Regional

Sweet - Performance, Competitive and Competitive Development

Examples include sandwiches, salads, pastries/sausage/cheese rolls, crisps, muffins, cakes, etc. And it would be great if we have a couple of gluten free options also.

The Club will provide non-alcoholic drinks, cutlery, cups, napkins, bags for rubbish, etc. You can bring your own alcohol or any specific non-alcoholic drink.

It’s a great night for all swimmers to have some fun and celebrate their successes together!

O nesies make an ideal Christmas present! The sizes available range from age 5 to age 13. To guarantee receiving your onesie before Christmas please order by Sunday 8th December

Please contact Cathie on [email protected] or via the Sunday desk

Kit: other club kit items are available via our kit website

Save the Date: 22 December is the Masters vs Squads gala (Our chance for revenge for losing last year!). Let Nick know if you are interested in joining team Masters; parents are welcome to swim as well.

Keep an eye out for details of the January 2020 long course K2 meet which should open soon, this is always popular and sells out quick and probably more so this year with people looking for qualifying times for Budapest.

Paul is doing a sterling job with the Christmas Dinner – don’t forget to settle up payment and food orders and sorting those gifts (was great fun last year).
