March 2020 Newsletter

March 2020

Message from Dimitri, Chairman

The whole club is still buzzing from the amazing results of this years County Championship, what an effort, well done all! March is usually busy with more meets and competitions so may I kindly ask you all to carefully read through the emails and communications that have gone out as there is a lot of useful information, especially for first time entrants. On this note, I urge all parents to enter your kids, especially if new to the club, as this is a great experience for them, usually complemented with a lot of fun!

Last, but not least, I would like to note that the club is following the Governments and Swim Englands guidelines on the latest corona virus measures. Please make sure you read the latest communications, sent out last week, on this also.

If you have any questions or comments, you can contact me or any member of the committee or by email. Our contact details can be found on the FSC website and via this link Committee members.

Message from Sean, Head Coach

What an incredible few weeks FSC has had - the Surrey County Championships followed by last weekend’s Hart Open meet!  Demonstrating that the programme is going from strength to strength. And team spirit amongst the swimmers is fantastic.

Looking forward, I am in talks with Martin and Carl to see what we can do with regards to this year’s Open Water programme, as the days start to get lighter and hopefully warmer. And on the horizon we have the Guildford and Haslemere Open Meets, followed by the Regional Championships, our own Club Championships and the Portsmouth end of season meet. So there is lots to work for and to continue to drive forward throughout the rest of the season.

Our session numbers are starting to settle and my attention is now starting to turn towards planning the Summer schedule and how I can evolve the programme for the new season. Rest assured, my priority now is stabilising the programme and raising standards so please don’t expect any major changes in September. I am pleased with the infrastructure and that we have created an environment where continual individual progression is recognised and this will continue. As always if you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to email me or the coaching team.

In other news, massive congratulations to Sydney and Jacob who have received their level 2 coach qualifications. This is a major milestone for any coach and well and truly deserved, so massive congratulations again to you both for all your hard work.

Finally, I am looking forward to releasing an official statement on the new Assistant Head Coach joining the team. We are just crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s here.

All in all, FSC is going from strength to strength and the atmosphere around the club and positivity from everyone is just phenomenal. Let’s continue to make dreams become reality.

Saying of the month: Don’t be upset with the results you didn’t get, due to the work you didn’t do!

Christmas is over and the sales are finished, but you can still raise loads of the money for the club when shopping online. Farnham Masters competed at the 25th anniversary Bracknell meet last weekend, ending a long days competition ranked 6th club out of 28 attending, with 2 Gold, 10 Silver and 7 Bronze medals in the individual events and 3 Silver and 2 Bronze in the relays. (This year there was the now usual 4x25m Fly relay and a special 25x25m cannon to finish - great fun if not a tough way to finish!)

Amy Maclucas deservedly won the coveted "I Love my coach" performance of the day T-shirt for her Silver in the 50m back (25 years after last competing!) a tradition now being joined by the wearing of Unicorn and Dragon Hats in the relay events it appears! The day was finished off with a team meal and chance to swim down with a drink or two.

Keep an eye out for information on the next Masters social, likely to include a talk from a nutritionist. Date to be confirmed.

Upcoming meets - The Surrey Masters should be late June. Entry not open but watch this space.
