Dear Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club Members,
I was hoping that this email would be confirmation of the nation-wide pool reopening that we had anticipated for July 4th. Unfortunately, like all of you, I was quite frustrated that the recent government easing of restrictions didn’t include swimming pools and leisure centres.
On June 15th Swim England announced their returning to pools guidance plans. These documents contain detailed information for all aspects of swimming and how to manage a safe return to the pool. Once a date is confirmed, these documents will provide insight into what safety measures will most likely be introduced.
The club recently met with GLL to discuss their phased plan to allow the club back into Camden pools. GLL phase 1 will consist of a very limited offering to the club. Due to pool’s initial opening hours being cut and the rigorous cleaning that must be completed between public swim sessions, club swimming will be significantly reduced and restricted. Therefore, during the first phase we will only be able to offer a small portion of our normal swim schedule. This initial schedule was due to be re-evaluated at the beginning of September. Given yesterday’s announcement that pools will not be reopening, it is most likely that date will be pushed back.
The American School and Highgate are tentatively planning to reopen their pools in the new school year. In the best case scenario we would be able to access those pools just as GLL’s phase 2 commences. That would hopefully be our best scenario for a return to our normal swim schedule.
Historically the club has closed during the month of August as many club members / staff go away for the summer. This year, given the circumstances, we are planning to be open and offer the maximum pool time we have been allotted. Once the government announces a date for pools to re-open we will be in contact to gauge interest / availability in returning to swimming during GLL’s first phase. Be assured we will strive to get as many people back into the pool as possible. This will most likely include pre-booking squad spaces so we can ensure getting everyone the opportunity to swim but also help eliminate empty slots to guarantee we are maximising our allowed number of swimmers during each session.
We understand and appreciate that many of you are frustrated over the continued closure. It has definitely lasted longer than many anticipated. Swim England launched a #OpenOurPools campaign to help coerce the government to re-evaluate their decision to not open pools. If you would like to be part of this campaign please visit http://www.swimming.org/swimengland/open-our-pools/ to see details on how you can help.
During this time we continue to rely on the kindness of our member’s support. On behalf of everyone at CSCSC, I would like to thank you for your continued support of our club. If your family circumstances or finances have changed and you need to rethink your membership fee choice (paying full fees, discounted fees or cancelling) please get in contact with the CSCSC office manager.
I wish everyone continued good health and happiness.
