It is with great
sadness that we announce the passing of one of our beloved and long
standing Masters Swimmers, Lucy Ogilvie. Lucy passed away earlier
this week after an intense and courageous battle with Stage 4 bowel
cancer following her diagnosis in May 2019.
Lucy joined CSCSC Masters squad in 2003 and prior to this competed
for her hometown of Godalming in Surrey and at the University of
Exeter.
Lucy's strength of character and leadership was paramount both in
swimming and in life. Her presence in the pool motivated others to
strive to be better. Many would agree that a session with Lucy
added that extra push that’s required in order to walk away
from a session feeling accomplished. Lucy competed in many
competitions and galas including the World Masters in Riccione,
Italy in 2004 and in Stanford, California in 2006. Lucy also loved
going to Club La Santa to train and had many happy trips there with
CSCSC friends over the years.
Lucy approached her illness in the same way she did her swimming
with courage and determination supported by her wonderful husband
Iain and their two beautiful daughters Aoife (7 yrs) and Enid (2
yrs).
Our heartfelt condolences are with Iain, Aoife, Enid and her
immediate family during this sad time. Lucy will always be
remembered as a pivotal member of the club who touched the lives of
so many in her professional and personal lives. The club played a
huge role in her life and she will be greatly missed.
