We recognise at a young age, that children can be interested in everything, and swimming may be just one of a dozen extra-curricular activities which they participate in. Our Junior Competitive Squad caters for all swimmers, for whom swimming may take a back seat to another activity, and they may not wish to commit to more sessions per week at this point.
Swimmers in the Junior Competitive squad have access to up to three sessions per week, and are also eligible to compete for the team in any individual open meet, and in team galas such as the Junior League, Arena League and Leicestershire Leagues. While members of our development performance squad may have a greater chance of progressing further in the sport, the Junior Competitive squad leaves the door open for young athletes to prioritise other activities while continuing their swimming training alongside. It also gives them the time to realise that swimming is obviously better anyway, at which point they can move into our performance pathway.
Similar to the Development Performance Squad, the Junior Competitive squad focuses on completing the fundamentals and basic skills learnt in the Pups squad before adding more advanced techniques to develop a more powerful and efficient stroke. This squad has consistently produces athletes to compete at the Leicestershire County Championships, but there is no requirement to get to this level, only to enjoy training and improving with the club.
