Group Training Schedule

TRAINING GROUP SCHEDULE - EFFECTIVE 2nd SEPT 2019

Current Training Schedule

Swimmers are divided into six groups based on age, physical development, speed and ability, in line with the British Swimming Optimal Athlete Development Framework programme (OADF):  Two further practise groups exist for experienced swimmers wishing to maintain their membership as Masters and/or Fitness (Group 7, by invitation) and whilst at college/university for existing club members during holiday periods (Group 8).

Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many as possible of the sessions to which they are entitled, in order to benefit from all the different aspects of the varied training plans (different coaching targets and objectives for different sessions), and to build their stamina and stroke development: A beneficial by-product of the swimming programme is that it has a pronounced effect on levels of general health and fitness, as well as appearance and well-being: For children who enjoy other sports, whether with schools or clubs, their swimming training and competition experience will have a direct crossover benefit.

In conjunction with Tring Swimming Club, a Wednesday evening session is used to develop senior swimmers in both clubs: Attendance to this session is by invitation by the respective Head Coach, for the selection criteria see below.

Berkhamsted Swimming Club swims at three pools:  The Knox Johnston Sports Centre (KJ), Everyone Active Berkhamsted (BSC) and Tring – Tring School (TR)

The only times there is no training or adjusted training times are:  Bank Holidays; the August two week shutdown; pool issues (maintenance/fault); Berkhamsted School galas, or if there are coach availability issues: All training sessions continue as normal on dates when competitions are taking place, except where a BSC event is scheduled during the normal training session(s): All members will be advised of any changes via email and News page on our website www:berkosc:org:uk.

Training times at KJ will vary during School holiday periods (being mornings only) and these will be advised by e-mail and News page on our website before each school holiday period.

*** The Senior Competitive Group

Will be training at Tring and with selected members of BSC & Tring SC (based around the same criteria) having both been drawn from the following;

  1. Athletes are competitive and actively attend Open Meets, County & Regional Champs and continually support the Club’s external team galas
  2. Show commitment to attending existing training sessions
  3. Come to each training session with commitment and the right mindset to achieve all they can and working with the coaching team and other athletes to achieve this
  4. Finally, are inspired, driven, self-motivated and wish to continually develop their skills and their competitive edge to the best of their ability

This group will be reviewed on a quarterly basis and changes made based on individual’s progress against the criteria.

New invitations will be made to other swimmers as part of this review cycle.

Our hope is that as this initial competitive group develops and we finesse this process further, that in conjunction with Tring SC, we expand this to provide another Competitive Group aimed at Groups 4 & 5.
