Supporting charities within our local community

Following on from a recent call for charity nominations for HSC to support, we are pleased to announce that until December 2018, we will be supporting two local charities; Up on Downs and Angels.

Both charities are local, work with children and also support athletes and their families within our club.

Nominated by the family of Mark Evens – Competitive swimmer

Mark and his family have been actively involved with Up on Downs since the group was set up in 2006. The organisation is the Hertfordshire Down's Syndrome family support charity.

Nominated by the family of Andrew Thomson – Water polo player

Angels is a parent led voluntary organisation and Registered Charity set up in North Hertfordshire to support parents and carers of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD).In the past Angels helped Andrew’s family apply for a Statement and were the listening ears when life was both tough and challenging for them. They offered advice and support which enabled them as a family to move forwards

Raise money and get involved - planned activity

HSC swim the Channel – sponsored swim and family BBQ Saturday 14 July 18:30, Letchworth Outdoor Pool.

As part of our fundraising efforts for our two nominated local charities, we are inviting all of our swimmers (including Masters members) and water polo members to take up the challenge.

As a collective we are aiming to swim the 21 mile distance of the English Channel (that’s 670 lengths of the 50m pool).

Distance options are:

1 mile (32 lengths of the 50m pool available to all squads and WP)
½ mile (16 lengths of the 50m pool available to all squads and WP)
¼ mile (8 lengths of the 50m pool available to D & C squads only)

All swimmers will receive a certificate of achievement, there will be team games in the pool after the swim and we are also running a treasure hunt for younger siblings.

There will be a BBQ running throughout the event and also hot and cold drinks all of which can be purchased throughout the evening. Family members and siblings are very welcome to attend!
