Balázs Sasvári - Head Coach & Lesson Coordinator

Balázs Sasvári came to us in 2015 from Hungary, via Alton & District Swimming Club, where he had been the Head Coach for 4 years. 

Balázs is an ex swimmer himself having been Hungarian National Champion 4 times over various long distances. He was teaching at his fathers swim school before university but continued with teaching and coaching whilst there. He coached in Egypt for a short time before relocating to Petersfield where he became Head Coach at Alton and a swim teacher/coach at Churchers College.


Paulina Kret - Junior Squad Coach

Paulina joined Modernian SC in September 2017. She has a broad experience as swimmer as well as coach/teacher. She has been Polish Junior National Champion 5 times at backstroke and participated in the final of a Junior European Championship. Paulina has coached for 5 years in the UKS Zabianka Swimming Club, Gdansk (Poland) and taught for 7 years as a swimming teacher.

 She graduated from the Academy of Physical Education and Sport,Gdansk (Poland), with specialisation in Coaching & Swimming.  Paulina is highly involved in the best development of the swimmers through innovative and skill development trainings and tries to inspire the swimmers to give their best during  training and local/national championships.


Ian Douglas - Assistant Coach

Since joining the Modernian Swimming Club as a young swimmer Ian has evolved into a top class coach. He has gained some of the highest level coaching qualifications while continuing his career in teaching at a Bedfordshire school.


Jessica Stalley - Assistant Coach

Jess is a lifelong Modernian who finished studying at University of Stirling in 2017. She is a qualified L2 Teacher and Coach before university and holds her NRASTC lifesaving qualification. Jess was an assistant coach at Stirling Swimming Club as well as maintaining links when back in Bedford but she assists with both Senior and Junior Squads as well as teaching with lessons.


Sue Coventry - Assistant Coach

Originally from Keynsham Swimming Club near Bath, Sue qualified as an Advanced Swimming Teacher. Sue assists coaching the Junior Squad and has been on several training camps with the club abroad. She now watches her granddaughter train.


Oliver Robinson - Assistant Coach

Oliver is a L2 teacher and L1 coach who balances teaching and coaching within the club. A swimmer himself, he enjoys working with both lesson swimmers and competitive swimmers in the Junior Squad.




Jo Coventry - Assistant Coach

Jo is an ex-Modernian herself who was coaxed back to coaching when her daughter joined Junior Squad. Jo is a qualified teacher and coach and supports the coaching team as a volunteer coach with Junior Squad.


Su Felce - Assistant Coach

As a former swimmer with Modernian Swimming Club many years ago and having worked for over 20 years as a swimming teacher Su qualified as a Level 2 Coach in 2011 as she wanted to be able to offer to help the coaching team whenever she could
