Balázs Sasvári - Head Coach & Lesson Coordinator

Balázs Sasvári came to us in 2015 from Hungary, via Alton & District Swimming Club, where he had been the Head Coach for 4 years. 

Balázs is an ex swimmer himself having been Hungarian National Champion 4 times over various long distances. He was teaching at his fathers swim school before university but continued with teaching and coaching whilst there. He coached in Egypt for a short time before relocating to Petersfield where he became Head Coach at Alton and a swim teacher/coach at Churchers College.

Balázs completed the Senior Coach programme in 2018/19 as well as now holding his L2 Gym Instructor qualification. He also sits on the region’s Coach Forum & is active as a coach on behalf of Bedfordshire ASA and Swim England East Region.


Ian Douglas - Assistant Coach

Since joining the Modernian Swimming Club as a young swimmer Ian has evolved into a top class coach. He has gained some of the highest level coaching  qualifications while continuing his career in teaching at a Bedfordshire school.


 Sue Coventry - Assistant Coach

Originally from Keynsham Swimming Club near Bath, Sue qualified as an Advanced Swimming Teacher. Sue assists coaching the Junior Squad and has been on several training camps with the club abroad. She now watches her granddaughter train.


         Oliver Robinson - Assistant Coach

Oliver is a L2 teacher and L1 coach who balances teaching and coaching within the club. A swimmer himself, he enjoys working with both lesson swimmers and competitive swimmers in the Junior Squad.





Jo Young - Assistant Coach

Jo is an ex-Modernian herself who was coaxed back to coaching when her daughter joined Junior Squad. Jo is a qualified teacher and coach and supports the coaching team as a volunteer coach with Junior Squad.

Ian Little - Assistant Coach

Ian has two swimmers in the club and was keen to help out when they joined so has now qualifed as an Assistant Coach and volunteers with Junior Squad.


Jack Sangster - Assistant Coach

Jack has swum since the age of 3 and joined Modernian SC as a 12 year oldand has qualified for Nationals two years running. Jack has also qualified as a Swim Teacher and an Assistant Coach whilst continuing his studies in Sports Science and History


Emma Howitt - Poolside Helper

Emma has been with the club as a swimmer for several years and also volunteers with Junior Squad having attained her Assistant Teacher qualification 

Jo Stalley - Personal Trainer

Jo has been with the club for well over a decade as a parent and volunteer and now leads the club's land training sessions.
