Our training programme is designed to ensure that all swimmers are able to fulfill their own personal maximum potential. 

Progression and performance is constantly monitored. GATORS work hard to balance a sense of fun, a strong team spirit and high levels of achievement.

From the club's learn to swim programme, swimmers are given the opportunity to progress through to the Development Squads into a competitive environment and to compete in galas that are carefully chosen to reflect every swimmers' individual ability.

Sessions are taken by qualified coaches and training sets prepared, not only to improve overall performance, ie stroke technique, fitness levels, etc., but are also written to ensure that swimmers have fun and enjoy the training sessions.

Swimmers who do not wish to pursue a competitive pathway may choose to move into the club's Swimfit session.

Development 1 Selection Criteria*

To progress from Learn to swim into Development squad 1, a swimmer must demonstrate the following:


- show basic understanding of competitive strokes

- able to perform a good simultaneous breast stroke kick


- simultaneous breast stroke leg
- side breathing front crawl
- good body position for backstroke


- 15-20m of at least front crawl and backstroke
- 15-20m of breast stroke kick
