Mike (Head Coach)
Steve (Head of Age Groups)
I have been involved in swimming for over 26 years which started at Preston Swimming Club at age 4. I competed at regional level in swimming and water polo and also led the Lancashire ladies water polo team which was unbeaten for the two years I was there. My Teaching and Coaching philosophy is: Having a great attitude and holding great skills and technique. This is the key to success. I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best coaches in the area and working with swimmers from Learn to Swim through to International level.
James (Assistant Head Coach)
I started to swim with Pioneer 79 in 1996 at the age of 3. I progressed through the club quickly and found myself competing at the Club Championships in 2001 at age 8. At the age of 12 I qualified for my first Lancashire County Championships and went on to be the Mens Club Captain. At this time the club made an historic acheivment in qualifying for the A final of the North West Premier Divison of the National Swimming League. I retired from competitive swimming in 2014 to focus on my University Degree and my Teaching and Coaching at Pioneer. I have coached several groups at Pioneer and now look after the next generation of Pioneer swimmers, many of whom have qualified for County and Regional Championships. At the start of 2015/16 season I was appointed in my current role of Assistant Head Coach and look forward in the coming years to giving back to the sport that gave me so much.
