Performance Age

For Age Group swimmers (up to 14yr).  Swimmers are working towards further improvements in stamina and endurance combined with great stroke and skill technique.  Training towards specific competitions becomes more important, and swimmers will have an aim of achieving Regional Qualifying Times for the coming year.

Stroke technique & skill level for starts, turns, and finishes is established, but swimmers will need reminding to perform consistently.  At this level swimmers are aiming to achieve 10m underwater with an efficient and streamlined transition.

Swimmers will be expected to have specific competition targets, and develop racing strategies and mental preparation in those competitions.

Lead Coach : Stewart Park

Overview

Performance Age swimmers are expected to:

  • Routinely attend 5 out of 9 weekly training sessions
  • Be on poolside at least 10 minutes before the session to complete an efficient land warm up and be briefed before the session.
  • Routinely complete a logbook of their training
  • Regularly review their goals and objectives
  • Take responsibility for their own training and development
  • Be 100% committed in every training session
  • Bring their own goggles, kick board, pull buoy, water bottle, fins, paddles, and Norwich Swan hat (all available from the Club Shop) to training sessions

Training

Training will be primarily based on “Stage 3: Training To Train” of the Long Term Athlete Development Programme.

At performance level more commitment is expected, and swimmers should be routinely attending 5 out of the 7 weekly training sessions, and include land training sessions.

As training becomes more time intensive participation in other sports is likely to decrease, but participation in other complementary sports will still be useful.  Please speak to the lead squad coach to get more advice on this.

Performance Reviews

Performance reviews will be carried out every six months to monitor swimmers’ progress.  Swimmers who are not meeting the criteria and expectations for the squad will be informed of this, and have a further three months to reach the required standard.  If swimmers are still not meeting the squad’s criteria after the three months, they will be moved to a more appropriate squad for their abilities and ambitions.
