Development Age 1

For Age Group swimmers (up to 13yr).  The emphasis is on developing excellent technique on all four strokes as well as starts, turns and finishing skills.  There will also be a strong focus on aerobic conditioning.

Stroke technique is generally good, and swimmers are aiming to make their stroke more efficient.  Knowledge of starts, turns, and finishes is good, and swimmers are working towards making them more efficient.  Swimmers in this squad are aiming to achieve 5m underwater with an efficient and streamlined transition.

The focus is on training, but swimmers are expected to compete to test and refine their skills, and this means competing in a range of galas that they qualify for. This includes Norfolk ASA County Championships, Challenge and Development galas, along with Club Championships, Graded galas, and any local open meets.

Lead Coach: Tina Bedder

Overview

Development Age swimmers are expected to:

  • Be on poolside at least 10 minutes before the session to complete an efficient land warm up and be briefed before the session.
  • Take responsibility for their own training and keep their profile and personal swimming information data up to date.
  • Bring your own, goggles, hat, kick board, pull buoy, water bottle and fins to every session.

Training

Training will be based on the Long Term Athlete Development “Stage 2: SwimSkills - Building Technique”.  Older children in this squad will also work towards “Stage 3: Training to Train - Building the engine”.  Swimmers will also continue to work on their stage 10 of the NTPS.

To get the best out of your swimming now and in the future, it is recommended that you aim to attend 3 sessions per week (one of them being 25m) along with a land training session.

It may also help your training if you participate in other complementary sports that use similar energy systems or help build strong core muscles.
