Open Water Camp

Thursday 31st May - Sunday 3rd June 2018

The Swan Open Water Swimming Camp is open to Swimmers from CA, CS, CY, PA and PY.  Swimmers 11yo and over (age as at 31.12.2018) from DA1 may also participate at their coaches discretion.

There are Open Water taster sessions available for siblings and junior swimmers during the weekend, but they are not able to participate in the main coached sessions due to the level of fitness required.

If you are in the above squads and wish to attend the camp, and participate in the activities group but not the main open water training, that is also possible.  It is the same fixed fee per child whatever activities you chose to do.

The cost is £50 per child, this covers all the activities during the camp. The price is fixed and it is up to you how many/which activities your child chooses to join in with.  Parents are responsible for their own children outside of the times they are taking part in the organised activities.

Parents and Children may also like to join the Park Run (5K) which takes place at Fritton on Saturday mornings at 9am. Under 11's need to run with an adult and stay within arms reach of them.  14's and over can run unaccompanied. Don't forget your trainers and your barcode!

We have designed and ordered some special limited edition swimming hats especially for the camp.  We have chosen red for maximum visibility on the lake! Hats are £5 each.

There is a small campsite with basic facilities: toilets, showers and washing up area.  Usually they only accept tents, but have said they will allow us to bring caravans and campervans. Fritton has a big play area as well as woods and the lake. There is a pub in the grounds too.  Some people prefer not to camp and travel daily, which is also fine.  Camping is £14.50 per night.

The site doesn't have permanent electric hook ups, but the estate are going to try and organise some for us. It looks likely that it will be available for the caravans and campervans, but perhaps not for all of the tents. If you have a medical need then please let us know and this will be prioritised.  We are awaiting confirmation of numbers possible.  Cost will be £8 per night.  This will be billed separately when we have confirmation.

We are organising a BBQ for Saturday evening.  The cost is £3 per person. Please let us know how many tickets you require and if you want meat or veggie option.

If your child is doing the full Open Water swimming training sessions they will need a proper swimming wetsuit which allows for a full range of movement whilst swimming. These can be hired from Tri Harder in Dereham for the duration of the open water season (May-Sept) They take the full price of the suit as deposit and you get back all but £65 at the time you return it. They will give expert advice on fitting etc.

If your child is doing the activity group with just an Open Water taster then a neoprene "surf" type beach wetsuit would be fine. You can get these in sports direct or online for about £25. They are also handy for the stand up paddleboarding etc

If you wish to attend the camp please email Abby Chapman with confirmation of the details of your attendance:  number of child places, limited edition swimming hats required, nights camping required, electric, BBQ ticket numbers etc and we will invoice your account.

You can check your balance on the website by logging in and going to "My account" and "£ My Invoice/Payment".  If you have already set up AutoPay and registered a card against your account the money will be taken automatically on 1st June.  Alternatively you can make a one off payment by card prior to that by going to "£My Invoice/Payment" and then "Make Payment" and doing a one off payment.

The club is moving over to this payment system, so now is an ideal opportunity to register a card against your account. Under my account go to "Set up Auto Pay" and follow the steps.  Your squad fees will also be paid by this method so you will need to cancel your standing order if you do this so you don't pay them twice!

*This year the Norfolk ASA have agreed to part-fund Sunday morning sessions (8:30-10:30am) at Fritton Lake & these will start on Sun 6th May, and run on the following dates.  The cost for these is to be confirmed, but likely to be £5/session.

  • 6th, 13th, 27th May
  • 3rd, 10th, 24th June
  • 1st, 8th, 15th July
