ASA Membership - Interpretation of ASA Rules

Affiliation

Staines Swimming Club is affiliated to the ASA and the ASA South East Region, it is also associated with Middlesex County ASA. All SSC members must pay an annual ASA registration fee which is the sum of the National, Regional and County fees, the club may also charge a small additional fee to cover the coaches and volunteers registrations (club administration fee).

Membership Annual Return

The club has to send an annual return of all it's members and their swimming category to the ASA before the deadline set by them. The various categories of membership are defined as:

  • Category One shall include all members of any age who are learning to swim or who are swimmers at any level of ability, who do not compete in any discipline in open competitions, except open competitions restricted to our own members and low level competition as defined by the ASA Committee.

  • Category Two shall include all members of any age who compete in any discipline in open competitions other than open competitions restricted to our own members and low level competition as defined by the ASA Committee.

  • Category Three shall include all members of any age who are not in Categories One or Two including, but not being limited to, any persons who have voting rights in their club by virtue of being a parent of or a person with parental responsibility for a member in Categories One or Two; administrators; associate members; coaches; helpers; honorary members; life members; officers; presidents; qualified officials of any discipline; patrons; teachers; temporary members; vice presidents and verifiers or tutors of the Association's educational certificates.

Other Points to Note

  • ASA membership is for the calendar year from January to December.

  • Persons joining the club on or before 30th September will have to pay the full annual fee for the appropriate category.

  • Any persons joining the club after 30th September will not have to pay the annual fee for that calendar year but must fill in a registration form for submission to the ASA.

  • If a member falls into more than one category, they will pay the highest amount for which they are liable and be registered against that category.

  • Casual helpers who are not registered are covered by third party insurance only.

  • Where members belong to more than one club, only a single annual fee is payable from the members first claim club.

  • Where members transfer from one club to another, only one annual fee will be payable.
