Cranleigh Open Meet - Sunday 11th June - Gala Report

After a fantastic day at the EPSC-ASC trophy gala, 20 young Elmbridge swimmers travelled to the Cranleigh Open Meet in pursuit of medals and personal bests. It was a long day and compared to other clubs we only had a handful of swimmers. The Elmbridge Phoenix youngsters rose to the challenge finishing 4th overall only a point behind the hosts in 3rd position.
As coach's it was great to see so many strong swims from our young team. Emily Pilgrim and Niamh Kennedy shared a lot of the glory with many medals and new personal bests between them. It was also an opportunity for swimmers to compete in events that they are not as confident in. Annabel Pilgrim, Georgia Winterbourne and Katie Coackley all achieved faster times in 50m breaststroke- well done girls.
Our Junior Squad team performed fantastically with notable swims from Esme Sherriff with a 1st place in the 50m Breast and a 2 sec PB. Emily Shaw gained a 1st and two 2nd's in her 3 events as well as 3 PB's! Sarah Soliman - 9 years, also gained a 1st place in 50m Breast, a 2nd in 200m Breast and 3rd in 50m Free. Maisie Vila made 4 strong PB's from her 6 races. Young 9 year old Isabella Jordan had a strong 50m Free with a 4 second PB. Oliver Flack had a great meet with 2 good PB's but also went home with one Silver and three Bronze in the 9 year old boys. Jemima Eckes had 4 swims for 4 PB's. Yiannis Scotiniadis swam 3 events and had good improvement in his 50m Breast in the 11 year old boys.
Also great to see our Senior Squad members, Gemma & Lucy Fabris swimming so well. Gemma had great improvements in her 50m Fly. 50m Breast & 100m IM. Where Lucy had a clean sweep of PB's in her 5 events, most notably the 100m IM and 200m Free with 9 sec PB in each.
After Cranleighs achievements there is no doubt our swimmers will continue to progress. Keep up the hard work and onto the next one!!!
