History of Stevenage Swimming Club
Stevenage Swimming Club was established over thirty years ago and merged with Six Hills swimming club in 2003. It is a competitive club affiliated to the Swim England East Region and Swim England Hertfordshire.
It aims to provide professional teaching and coaching for as wide a range of swimmers as possible from Learn To Swim to nationally ranked swimmers, with a structure that is geared to produce competitive swimmers at all levels, National, Regional, County and Club.
The club is based at Stevenage Swimming Centre which provides the club with a 25m pool for training sessions.
The club competes in the:
Hertfordshire Major League Division 1 and 2 for U12 to Open age group
Hertfordshire Peanuts League Division 1, 2 and 3
National Arena League (Division Two).
The club trains and competes all year round however, there are no competitions held in August. Please check training times over the summer period for any changes to the normal timetable, which is dependent upon the Club Coach and available pool time. We close at Christmas for two weeks, the Easter four-day weekend and Bank Holiday Mondays when the Pool is closed in the evenings but otherwise training is throughout the year. Precise dates are available on the club’s notice board and this website.
The club colours are Red and Black. Club costumes, hats, fleeces, polo shirts and more are available from the club’s swim shop or from one of our partners and should be worn at all team competitions for ease of identification and team spirit.
How the Club runs
An Executive Committee, whose members are elected or re-elected at the Annual General Meeting, manages the Club, using the Clubs constitution as its framework. The AGM is held annually with details of venue given well in advance and is open to all interested parties. Committee members are very approachable, but please remember that they are very hard working, unpaid volunteers.
