Fee information and update, January 2016 NEW

With the last fee increase in early 2012, rising costs and two successive years of operating deficits (as reported at previous Annual General Meetings), these changes (trailed before Christmas & also via the website) are absolutely imperative to meet our financial objectives of being sustainable as a not-for-profit organisation and to comply with ASA recommendations in relation to liquidity levels.

The rationale behind the changes is based upon affordability. Without the massive efforts of those involved in our Easter Open Meet, those who have raised/provided sponsorship and those who give hours and hours of their time for free across all areas of the Club plus our Learn to Swim program the fees would be much higher.

A proposal to introduce an annual membership fee has been shelved going instead for an increase to monthly fees. It is also a corrective action with two years fee increases rolled into one (compelling legal reasons which have now been resolved meant there was no fee increase last year).

The need to widen the gap between top and bottom competitive squads was discussed at Launch Night in September 2014 and therefore this gap has been more than doubled from £6 to £14 per month. This will widen further going forward and will reflect tiered squad fees at comparable clubs.

There is a necessity to see a greater balance between the cost to the club and fees generated by the various sections in respect of pool hire charges.  In addition equipment used by some sections needs to be replaced regularly and is expensive.

New policies have already been introduced - for using coach transport to away swimming galas and payment of a levy for swimming meet entries to help contain costs.

These fee increases alone will not meet our financial objectives - we also need to engage in fundraising activities throughout the whole club.

Unfortunately the response to Easyfundraising has been disappointing and has not generated the level of income the Club had anticipated.

Raffles at Arena League and the Christmas Gala have collectively raised almost £170 (thank you to those who donated prizes or bought tickets).

One area we are looking at is to hold more meets - the Easter Open Meet yields a surplus for the club but involves a massive effort - if we could hold a further one day meet that could raise additional funds. HOWEVER that involves having sufficient volunteers (qualified in the case of officials and team managers) to run such events. The larger the qualified workforce we can build, the greater the scope to run more meets (more meets = more money = lower fee increases going forward). There are officials and team managers courses running very soon details are on the notice board please sign up and help the club. The club needs more parents, particularly from the younger age group swimmers, to step forward.

The Club needs to ensure that these corrective fee increases are something of a one-off and, going forward, we can operate a more balanced income stream with nominal rises but where we are not so dependent on members fees, Easter meet and other activities.

The club Treasurer, Malcolm Anderson, will be in the cafe on Tuesday 12th January 7.15-9.15pm and would really like lots of you to come and have a chat about ways you think we can raise funds (this is to gather ideas so we can formalise this with a group and specific projects later on in the season - so please don't be shy, we want to receive lots of ideas),
