Camden Swiss Cottage  ASA Learn to Swim Framework

Requirements Award 
Adult & Baby for children 3 months – 24 months and unable to walk unaided

ASA Ducklings 1,2

Adult &Toddler for children 2 yrs – 4 yrs and are able to walk unaided

ASA Ducklings 1, 2, 3, 4

Stage 1 for children 4 years and over who are new to Swim School and are still not water confident

ASA Stage 1

Stage 2 for children 4 years and over, confident moving around the water but are still non or weak swimmers and unable to travel 5 metres on front and back without a flotation aid

ASA Stage 2

Stage 3 for children who have passed stage 2 or able to travel 5 metres on both the front and back without the use of aids, able to regain standing and blow bubbles into the water

ASA Stage 3

Stage 4 for children who have passed stage 3 or are able to travel 10m on the front and back unaided with a basic technique. Confident to jump into the water

ASA Stage 4

Stage 5 for children who have passed stage 4 or are able to kick 10m of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and swim 10 metres of a stroke

ASA Stage 5

Stage 6 for children who have passed stage 5 or able to swim 10m of front crawl backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly all with good technique and are able to confidently tread water and perform somersaults in the water

ASA Stage 6

Stage 7 for children who have passed stage 6 or are able to swim 25m correct technique of at least 1 stroke and 10m correct technique of other 3 strokes, able to surface dive to the bottom of the pool, fully deep water confident and able to swim with clothes on confidently

ASA Stage 7

Adult Beginner for pupils aged 16 or over to promote water confidence and develop core aquatic skills. Based on stages 1-3 of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework

ASA Stages 1–3

Adult Improver for pupils aged 16 or over who are able to swim at least 10m to further develop technique and stamina. Based on stages 4-5 of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework

ASA Stages 4–5

Adult Advanced for pupils aged 16 or over these lessons focus on stroke development and endurance. Based on stage 6 and above of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework
