Anyone wanting to join Woking Swimming Club, including already competitive swimmers, should follow the instructions below and we’ll get back to you about the next step. If you have any questions about joining that aren't answered below, please send an email to our New Members Team.
For children born between January 2013 and December 2016
What are we looking for?
Depending on your child's age we will have a minimum expectation of ability:
5 and 6 year olds are expected to be able to swim basic front crawl and backstroke.
7 year olds are expected to be able to swim front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
For older swimmers, as well as good stroke technique in front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke, we have target swimming times. If your child is not achieving the times below then they are unlikely to be suitable for our competitive swimming squads:
8 year old expectations for 1 length of a 25m pool:
Freestyle - 24 seconds, Backstroke - 27 seconds, Breaststroke - 31 seconds, Butterfly - 27 seconds
9 year old expectations for 2 lengths of a 25m pool or 1 length of a 50m Pool:
Freestyle - 42 seconds, Backstroke - 48 seconds, Breaststroke - 58 seconds, Butterfly - 58 seconds
When is the Next Trials Night?
For younger children interested in competitive swimming, we run trials towards the end of each term to offer places for the next term.
New Members' Trials Night
Date: Tuesday 28th June
Venue: Teaching Pool at Woking Pool in the Park
Age range: Children born between January 2013 and December 2016
After receiving your details, we will add your child to our list for the next trials and send you your time slot the weekend before.
During the trial we’ll assess their ability and establish if we have a space for them within their age group and ability.
For children born before January 2013
With older children we like to have an idea of their ability before booking a trial as, the older they are, the harder it is to step into a competitive club and swim with children in their own age group. For swimmers in this age group, please email our New Members Team.
For children born after December 2016
Although we can't accept younger children into our competitive section, we also have a Learn to Swim programme that may be suitable for your child depending on their swimming level.
For Masters swimmers
The club is looking to expand to a full Masters Squad later in the year as we seek further pool time and more information is available via [email protected] and our Masters Squad Page.

Please remember that we’re a competitive swimming club and are looking for children who want to swim competitively and whose family are prepared to accept the commitment.
We very much appreciate parents, and guardians, who are happy to help out at galas and participate, on a voluntary basis, in the running of the club.
