Wycombe Swimming & Bucks New University Swimming Teams

A collaboration between Bucks New University and Wycombe District Swimming Club

There are four swimming ‘offers’ for Bucks New University students, In order for University swimmers to access appropriate social, training and competition opportunities.

  • Swim Wycombe Team Bucks - Elite Performance Squad
  • Swim Wycombe Team Bucks - Competitive Squad
  • Team Bucks - Fitness & Social Squad 
  • Team Bucks - Leisure Wednesdays


Team Bucks Performance Sport Academy 2018/19

The scheme will be available to applicants who are competing in their sport at a regional or national level. Successful applicants will receive:
  • Full sports science fitness assessment at 2 points during the academic year
  • Discounted sports therapy sessions
  • Free sports massage (student led)
  • One hour S&C session per week including personal programme
  • Individual performance lifestyle  support coaching sessions delivered by Sport England qualified Talented Athlete Lifestyle Advisors (4 sessions per year)
  • Nutritional Analysis
  • Sport psychology workshops/presentations (4  per year)
  • Team Bucks Academy t-shirt
Additionally, swimmers allocated spaces in the Elite Performance Squad (National Performance Centre) can apply to have their training fees fully or partially covered by the University; this takes the investment to these athletes close to £4,000 per year. 
 
Students are expected to compete for Bucks New University at BUCS competition and attend the team training provided, based on the squad assigned. Successful students will be required to make a £100 payment to accept their place on the scheme. For more information about this scheme, please contact fiona.mccormack@bucks.ac.uk
 

Swim Wycombe Team Bucks

Elite Performance Squad 

  • The Elite Performance Squad is a new squad at Wycombe and it has a maximum size of 16 athletes, for swimmers over 18. Places will be decided by the WDSC Head Coach Kevin Brooks, in line with specific criteria.
  • Athletes must have achieved the Elite Performance Criteria, listed below. 
  • Swimmers must be “ranked” with the ASA under Wycombe District SC, with dual clubs being permitted to Bucks New Uni and the swimmers “home” club.
  • Commitment to a 48 week programme. 
  • Attending the appropriate weekly pool and strength & conditioning training sessions as directed 

Selection 

Swimmers will be accepted based on having achieved qualifying times for the British Championships (Trials), in Olympic Events in the previous season, and have demonstrated the desire to achieve in the following season.

Swimmers will be considered, based on having achieved a top 44 ranking in the 19+ Age Group at the Summer Benchmark meets, and in Olympic Events.

Additionally, swimmers may be able to access the training time of the WDSC Senior Performance Squad which train 05:45-07:45 and 16:30-18:30, depending on university schedule and commitments. This is at the sole discretion of the WDSC Head Coach.
