STAR-Fish
STAR-Fish is the swimming development squad organised and run by Stirling Swimming Club which is intended to increase the opportunity for young aspiring swimmers to become part of the swimming pathway in Stirling.
Targeting 7-9 year olds who have come through learn to swim programmes and have the basic skills on all four strokes, STAR-Fish provides a competitive swimming club based programme which will develop stroke technique, teach the racing skills of starting, turning and finishing and introduce the concept of training sets. It is anticipated that on completion of the STAR-Fish programme swimmers will be able to move seamlessly into competitive age group swimming.
Two STAR-Fish sessions run per week led by members of the coaching team of Stirling Swimming Club.
Sunday sessions are for those aged 7 - 8 years and the Tuesday session is swimmers aged 8 - 9 years. The session on the Tuesday night reflects the progression of squad training times within the club, with all squads training on a Tuesday night. Swimmers on a Sunday night will then aim to progress to the Tuesday night, however this does not mean that swimmers on a Sunday night will not be able to move directly into the club. We will manage the progression of all swimmers twice a year and will be based upon the ability and development of the swimmer as an individual.
STAR-Fish swimmers are required to become members of Scottish Swimming for insurance purposes and will pay a monthly fee to Stirling Swimming Club which will be payable in advance.
Being a STAR-Fish swimmer does not guarantee entry into the competitive squads of Stirling Swimming Club, and swimmers will have to achieve basic criteria to move into these squads.
The programme will be based on Scottish Swimming Swim Skills Levels 1 and 2 which allow for a comprehensive syllabus and provides key performance targets for swimmers and coaches.
