About our Academy

 

Our aim is to have the strongest Academy in the local region and as such we are only providing spaces for those swimmers between 7 and 13 years of age.

 

The Academy is designed to build upon swimmers core skills with the intent to prepare them for competitive swimming. Examples of these skills would be:

  • Stroke efficiency 
  • Core swimming skills
  • Racing Starts
  • Competitive turns 
  • Understanding of technical terminology 
  • Speed
  • Stamina

Equipment Required 

All swimmers enrolled MUST have their own equipment in a poolside ‘net bag’. This includes:

  • Kickboard
  • Fins (short fins where possible)
  • Goggles 
  • Ascot Royals swim hat
  • Pull buoy
  • Water bottle
  • Swimming snorkel (Academy Gold)

 

ACADEMY BRONZE

If your child has a passion for swimming and you would like to gently introduce them into a competitive training programme, our Academy Bronze is a great starting point.  

 To join, swimmers must be able to competently perform the following:

  • Swim 50m Backstroke, Breaststroke and Front Crawl
  • Perform a streamline push and glide

How many sessions a week will my child be asked to swim?
The fees for Academy Bronze cover one 45 minute session per week. However, it is expected that any swimmer enrolled into the Academy Bronze is also attending regular swimming lessons outside of the Academy. 
 

What is the age of swimmers at this level?
Typically, swimmers are aged between 7 and 10 years old.

What does my child have to do to move to Academy Silver?

Moving to the Academy Silver level is ultimately up to the coach’s discretion. However, a swimmer must:

  • Regularly attend sessions
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn by listening to the coach’s instructions
  • Perform strokes efficiently 
  • Regularly attempt basic competitive turns
  • Follow basic instructions from a drill board


ACADEMY SILVER 1 & 2

Academy Silver is available for swimmers who have either progressed through Academy Bronze or are able to perform the following:

  • Efficiently swim 100m Backstroke, Breaststroke and Front Crawl, demonstrating regular basic competitive turns
  • Perform a streamline dive 
  • Swim 25m Butterfly

How many sessions a week will my child be asked to swim?
Swimmers MUST regularly attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week. Each session lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour. 
 

What is the age of the swimmers at this level?
Typically, swimmers are aged between 8 and 11 years old.
 

What does my child have to do to move to Academy Gold?
Moving to the Academy Gold level is ultimately up to the coach’s discretion. However, a swimmer must:

  • Regularly attend sessions
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn by listening to the coach’s instructions
  • Perform all strokes efficiently
  • Carry out regular competitive turns without prompting  
     


ACADEMY GOLD

Academy Gold is available for those swimmers who have either progressed through Academy Silver or are able to perform the following:

  • Efficiently swim 200m Backstroke, Breaststroke and Front Crawl with good, competitive turns
  • Perform a streamline racing dive
  • Swim 50m Butterfly
  • Competently swim a 100m Individual Medley

How many sessions a week will my child be asked to swim?
Swimmers MUST regularly attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week 
Each session lasts between 1 - 1.5 hours.
 

What is the age of the swimmers at this level?
Typically, swimmers are aged between 9 and 13 years old.
 

What does my child have to do to move to the Development Squad?
Moving up to the Development Squad is ultimately up to the coach’s discretion. However, a swimmer must:

  • Regularly attend sessions
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn by listening to the coach’s instructions
  • Perform all strokes efficiently 
  • Carry out regular competitive turns without prompting.
