Head Coach – John Kealy
Profile – I have been a Head Coach for Asgard since I opened its doors in 1999 with two other friends who formed a committee. I have been a competitive swimmer for 30 years taking part in World Championships, Deaflympics, European Championships in New Zealand, Denmark, Lithuania, Sweden, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Taipei, Italy, Greece, Australia as well as Club, Regional and National level while training with Paragon, St. Pauls and Aer Lingus. I gained three world records which I still hold and 47 gold medals and numerous of Irish Master Records. Currently I still swim socially and take part in Open Water Swimming and Waterpolo. While I was training, I coached the Swedish & Austrian Deaflympics Swim Team prior to their championships. I took part in full time training programmes abroad in Arizona, Germany and Fort Lauderdale Aquatics in Miami. I have received an award for The Irish Indpendent Sports star of the Week and An Award from the Irish Deaf Sports Association for ‘Best Sporting Achievement’ in the last 40 years.
Since Asgard opened its doors I have worked with numerous coaches around Ireland and got involved in different training programmes such as Level 1, 2 & 3 Senior Coaching, Child & Adult Learn to Swim, Water Safety and High Performance to name a few. I am a member of the Leinster Technical Committee working alongside with other coaches around the country.
Age Group Coach - Alex Williams
Profile –My name is Alex Williams and I am a coach at Asgard swimming club.
I started my career as a swim teacher in 2004 when I qualified as an assistant swim teacher under Swim Ireland. I have been teaching and coaching for the past 16 years.
I then went on to to get my level 2 swim teacher 2 years later followed by my level 1 and level 2 swim coaching certificate a few years after that. I have taught and coached children from the age of 4 to senior adults. I have a passion for sport in general and especially for swim coaching and I get great satisfaction helping young swimmers develop their swimming skills.
I am a qualified Fitness instructor and Personal trainer for the past 15 years. I have taught a wide range of fitness classes from Aqua aerobics to Indoor cycling.
My own sporting background is wide ranging from playing Gaelic football and Soccer from a young age into my teenage years. I represented my county (Wexford) at Juvenile and Minor level in Gaelic football and also coached younger age teams at the same discipline.
I hold a first degree black belt in Taekwondo and I was also an instructor in this martial art in my early twenties.
I ventured into Triathlon, Athletics and road cycling competitively in 2004. I raced on the bike for a period of 6 years and I completed the Ras Tailteann in 2010. I have represented Ireland at the world amateur triathlon championships in Hamburg Germany in 2007. I have competed in 6 ironman races in the past 7 years and numerous shorter distance triathlons. I also hold a level 1 coaching certificate in triathlon.
