Chiltern League - Round 1

Wow! - What a fantastic round 1 performance by BEJSC at Banbury Leisure Centre, achieving a comfortable second place and a good points total to build on for rounds two (19/03) and three (09/04).  What stood out though was 'the team'.  Not only was the swimming excellent - showcasing everything learned in training, the poolside conduct was impecable and the support (and noise!) for their team mates infectious.  All swimmers did themselves and the club proud.

The evening comprised of 50 events for which each club selects one swimmer (or team for the relay events) and points are awarded for 1st, 2nd 3rd etc.  But there is a catch.  Each event has a 'no faster than time' – too fast gets you what is comonly referred to as a 'speeding ticket' - a valid time, but no points.  We were too fast in ten events (some by only 10ths of a second) with swimmers pulling out some amazing personal best times - which are also worth celebrating as these times do count for national rankings. Particular swims that stand out are Sophie and Libby in their 50m fly individual events and Kieran and George in their sprint relays.

On to round 2.  We will be sending an invite to sign up for the second round soon (please do actively commit or decline - last time 50% of the club did neither).  This is a fresh sign up, but we will aim to prioritise swimmers we couldn't field in round 1.  To help us do that, please do attend training on 27th February were we will be running a time trial for the swimmers in the Development squads - it helps us to put our swimmers into the right event.

And finally - not just the swimmers - BEJSC provided more volunteers than other clubs to help deliver the gala in terms of officials and poolside helpers so thanks to all.
