Junior Development 1 Squad (JD1)

Requirement

  • Attending or completed Learn to Swim Club Ready

  • Committed to attend a minimum of 1 session (out of 2) a week

  • Ability to complete 100m continuously

  • Good attitude

  • Committed to competitive environment and squad rules

Training Overview

  • 2 sessions  / 1 hour 45 minutes per week

  • Maintaining high skill levels whilst developing knowledge of all methods and principles of training, athleticism, team spirit 

  • 600 – 800 metres per hour

Junior Development 2 Squad (JD2)

Entry level

  • Completion of Learn to Swim Club Ready or JD1

Training Overview

  • 2 sessions / 2 hours per week

  • Progression of technical skills and abilities with an introduction to the development of speed, as well as social skills, team spirit and racing laws

  • 900 – 1200 metres per hour

  • Beta League

  • Mini Meets

  • Club Championships

 

Bronze Squad

Entry level

  • Attend minimum of 2 sessions a week with the intention and willingness to progress to 3

  • Good attitude

  • Understand basics i.e. use of clock, lane discipline, use of equipment, Laws of Sport

Training Overview

  • 3 sessions  / 3.5 hours per week

  • Further build technique and refine skills, sculling and “feel for the water” correct breathing patterns, perfecting starts and turns, stroke counting, mobilisation.   Competitions at this stage will be used to test and refine skills in the future.  

  • 1200 – 1800 metres per hour

Silver Squad

Entry level

  • Attend a minimum of 3 sessions a week with the intention and willingness to progress to 4

  • Committed to competitive environment and squad rules

Training Overview

  • 4 sessions / 5.5 hours per week + 45 minutes gym per week

  • Emphasis on maintaining high skill levels whilst developing aerobic (endurance) capacity.   Introduction to various methods and principles of training with specific targets e.g. race skills, athleticism, focus, and team spirit

  • 1800 – 2200 metres per hour

Gold Squad

Entry level

  • 3000 – 4500 metres per hour

  • Maintaining skill levels and developing all methods and principles of training 

  • 3500 –5000 metres per hour

  • 1800m – 2000m per hour
